I was listening to Brendan Schaub on with Joe Rogan prior to this weekend's fights, and he kept going on and on about his new love: single-track mountain-biking. If you don't know single-track, it literally means you have a lane to ride in that is just wide enough for your bike. Anyhow, I tried it - ONCE (in the single track that my friend said was built to be used if the Olympics came to Chicago, somewhere in a woody area called Palos Woods in the West-South burbs). I only went after the incessant urging of my crazy adrenaline-junkie friend, and I almost got a few concussions after falling off a steep trail. This shit, though, is NUTS: |

I really thought this was going to be a Ogie thread, but it turned out even worse. |

One of the twin otter pilots I work with is major into this shit. The guy is absolutely nuts. Without any sort of fear. Good pilot though, does a lot of cowboy shit but no more than any other bush pilot. I think he lasted a matter of weeks at the airlines, just zero regard for his own personal safety. It takes a certain kind to do that thing, there are dozens of moments in that video where he easily could've died. |

At the time I did it that one day, I was riding about 15 Miles per day on regular trails, so I was very conditioned, yet I almost fucked up both myself and my bike. My buddy kept telling me that it was no big deal, but he had a fat tire bike that was way better-suited to the type of shock and stress we were putting our bikes and bodies through. I was incredibly lucky that I did not get seriously injured. At one point in the course, we were riding on the 8 inch wide remnants of a dug-out concrete foundation of a house - and that's it. You have 8 inches for your tires to grab - or nothing - about 10 feet down onto solid concrete on one side, and rocks on the other. You fall, you are getting fucked-up. Never, ever again. |

It's irresponsible for anyone who has people who rely on them to embrace ways to almost die. |
