Perhaps the greatest athlete of all in perhaps his greatest performance, 06/09/1973 crushing Belmont's track record and winning the Triple Crown. Was gonna title thread "Big Red", but thought better of that...

My father cried when he died. He went and visited him a couple of times. He had these real nice coffee table books about the greatest racehorses of all time. The one story that I still remember about him was in his first night race it was a mile and a quarter. The way the track was laid out he had to go round 3 times. at the back stretch was a bank of lights the first two times he hit the turn the lights startled him and he just froze came to a dead stop and let the entire pack pass him. He wound up winning by 4 lengths

1937 was the only year there was a triple crown in horse racing (War Admiral) and baseball (Joe Medwick).
