Oh, for the days of the old IHL, where guys who were almost good enough for the NHL but not really would just bum around Rosemont and Auburn Hills for the relative fun of it. There's not so much of that in the AHL today, where they're obsessed with player development that only ever turns out bottom-six wingers anyway. Kris Versteeg tried to make a go of it in Rockford a year or two ago and then decided that was dumb like a week later.
