Great posts on the state of local sports radio today. Spot on and what everyone feels.

Remember what they said about James Brown. That when you heard his songs they resonated to what the guy on the street was feeling.

Clawmaster's posts are doing the same thing.

Not following. Claw feeling ( correctly) that todays local sports radio ( in particular 670's) sucks is a boomer sentiment ?

i dont think it's a boomer thing. i think it's more multi generational except maybe for the millennials. people tune into these stations to hear sports. not SJW shit.

after just typing that, i take it back DAC. I guess you're right. Maybe the younger kids these days want to have a lot of SJW stuff on the radio and less sports. i don't know. but it may be the reason the score is going that way to build a younger audience.

maybe politics being in EVERYTHING is the way the youngin's live now and prefer to live.

I prefer the Von Erich claw to the Von Raschke claw.

It is if you agree with him.

Clawmaster's idea of great sports radio is not my preference. I definitely prefer the current style of sports talk radio over the meatball, caller-driven shows of the 90s. But don't confuse my liking of the current style to liking all the different shows. The only show I listen to on the Score is the afternoon show. I find the rest of the shows boring and prefer listening to different podcasts.

That said, the posts themselves are very good.

I'm somewhere between the two of you in terms of listening preference in that I like good regular callers (for a local example, Wild Bill back in the Chet and early Score days RIP) but detest all other callers.

What I prefer is difficult to pull off anywhere these days: the original radio Sportswriters and the ESPN knockoff The Sports Reporters (the Dick Schap years). Three or four equally strong voices, shorter time frame (The Sportswriters was 5-7pm Sundays), no or maybe one guest, no callers.

One of my pursuits as we get to Spring Training is to find some good baseball podcasts. I have XM89 which gets me all the news and some reasonable analysis (Jim Memolo is actually really good in that format when he gets paired with Steve Sax on Sundays). But the podcast world is full of crap and until I retire I don't have time to sort through the shit - too many of them are bad callers with more time to pontificate.

I probably won't even watch it. I haven't watched any of the playoffs. I may watch the Blackhawks game today as I think ESPN+ has the feed.

it is being pulled off. Sports reporters are right here. With the original guys. They sound great as 30 years ago. Love their review of the Super Bowl yesterday.

Jim Memolo is actually one of my all-time favorite "no frills" sports talkers. He used to have a great weekend show on the Score. I'll have to check him out on XM.

I like his XM show when I catch it during the season. No frills would be a good description but it’s well done so that’s a nice change of pace.

He is on something like one evening and two weekend afternoons.

C'mon, Zippy. That's hitting us over the head with a mallet using a joke like that.
