The true story of David Cox could’ve been an even more interesting film. |

Everyone I've known who was a Marine came home a bit...different. Kind of like really aggressive but quiet NFL players. |

Thanks, but 'twas nothing. I slog through a few each year, getting slower and slower each time. Next up, Jekyll Island, GA, in January. Man of Few Opinions is the true runner here. |

No, but it sounds like a thing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barkley_Marathons Ultramarathoners can be a different breed. My max is 50k (a bit more than 31 miles) which to real ultrarunners is nothing more than a 'fun run.' My wife is a true ultrarunner. She has done a 200-miler, a 150, and numerous 100's and 50-milers. |

Is the Marine Corp route one of the tougher ones? No not especially. They could have changed it since I did it but as I recall it was mostly flat with the run through the monument area of the capital around mile 17-18, which is a good time for a little motivation. Towards the end (maybe mile 23-25) it was kind of boring running around the perimeter of the Pentagon. The finish was tough but at the same time appropriate; up the hill to the Iwo Jima Memorial, with each side flanked by Marines. I usually get goosebumps finishing a marathon but that one gave my goosebumps goosebumps. |

LOL hardly. Nice job on MCM though, bucket list race. I’ve really toned down the ultra stuff this past year or so. I did a fun-run marathon last fall from Twin Lakes WI to Algonquin on the prairie path with a friend, and it was much warmer than expected that day and it really fucked me up mentally. When we got to Sterns Woods in Crystal Lake after long miles in the hot sun and hit those short but steep hills I was really cooked. After that day ive really had a hard time getting my head in the game to train for long distances. I kind of miss the trails, I need to spend the winter dialing it back up a bit. |
