Bagels wrote: what's the difference between Lutheran and Catholic ? like it's pretty similar right Lutheran churches are autonomous and get their dogma from scripture, where Catholics have a hierarchy & the pope. That informs much of what the 2 churches believe about things like sacraments, forgiveness, saints, clergy, etc and make them pretty different from one another. |

a quick study of religion tells me that Lutherans believe that faith in Jesus is enough to enter Heaven, whereas Catholics believe in the rituals, good vs bad deeds and atonement for such and forgiveness in order to be considered worthy of heaven. and the catholic church also covers up the rape of children |

Bagels wrote: so Lutherans are better ? It's like when you go to the store and there are Kellogg's brand cereals on the top shelf and then those oddly named similar brands on the bottom shelf. Lutherans, Anglicans, various Orthodox are the bottom shelf. Then you have the religions created in the US, like Pentecostals, etc. Those are like shopping at Aldi. Finally you get to the Mormons, Scientologists and storefront churches, which are like buying recently past due boxes from a corner store. |

How do the different synods play in to this? Like the Missouri Synod? You don't hear good things about that one. |

The thing that kills me about the Johnny-come-latelys is when they refer to a saint as St. Luke or St. Etc. Look, bitches, we got a process for that, and you ain't involved. Go splay rabbit entrails over your lawn and read them for omens or whatever you do. Among white folx, Catholics would have a better football team. In all seriousness, the idea of faith over works is bonkers. Actually, that's something I really think is rational. Having a "close personal relationship with God" is a weird concept, unless you are talking about meditating. I'm an agnostic, though. |

Unless you want to fall for the snake oil of the something from nothing Quantum fields or the"infinite" multiverses. |
