The real Juneteenth is actually December 6, 1865. That was the day slavery was banned in Kentucky and Delaware with the ratification of the 13th amendment. June is a nicer month to take a day off though.

As gd mentioned above, Juneteenth is based on events we have proof and record of actually taking place. There are MANY other holidays across all religions and cultures that are based assumptions and stories. Nothing wrong with that on the surface, but its not true and unintelligent to say something like today is a fake celebration.

I'm happy to join in on someone's celebration. I don't take the day off, but I'd go to a party if someone asked. I think there are some people fibbing that they've been celebrating it for 20-30 years, but so what. It commemorates an actual event, unlike a lot of holidays.

I say this not joking in any way; the overwhelming majority of street violence could likely be linked to females. While they may not pull the triggers, they have so much blood on their hands. It's getting worse now because some of them are shooters. Historically, I believe a female has likely been behind the dumbest thing any male has done.

Every holiday is man made and designed to celebrate something and boost commerce.

last year when it was new i never had heard of it and was skeptical of this holiday. now i think it's a good idea it's celebrated. but there are still a lot of private companies that don't recognize MLK JR day.
