You do listen. And it should be acknowledged. Thanks. But I was probably being overly sensitive about pondering that question. Thank you. |

Did the mods delete because ken asked for deletion or because HY asked to not delete? |

Because the Doc asked. Couldn't find the delete HY button. |

Nardi wrote: This Ends in Antioch wrote: Did the mods delete because ken asked for deletion or because HY asked to not delete? Delete what? Ken made a thread. Bagels sassed him. Ken didn’t like the direction it was going and asked for the whole thing to be aborted. HY jumped to ken’s defense and told him to never back down. |

Alright, I should have just left it but it bothered me. I was filling out paperwork for my young adult son who has Autism to facilitate his transition to adult care needs. A lot of paperwork. One of the questions was "Will this condition likely lead to his death?" How the hell do you answer that question? Sure it could. I didn't like the question and wondered about its relevance and came here to vent. The story is not as interesting and the explanation is not much more interesting. |

That’s understandable. I don’t think the question is meant to be dark but it’s a very personal one and would definitely flare the nostrils and could be taken the wrong way. There have been a few “Unsolved Mysteries” in the past about lost autistic men and my heart goes out to their families. |

There might have been an "Undecided" but I was too pissed to keep reading. |

The one shining light in this was it pissed me off so much I did this. So fuck you....medical questionnaire people....my son and I are going to eat bacon cheeseburgers with cheddar fries....for a week...because that's his favorite. That's going to kill me before it ever kills him. |

I might PM you about this. I had a similar experience a while back, and it was not pleasant. |

Nas wrote: What does adult care look like? We are lucky. I think you even met Chip (Dr. Ken Jr. III). He is the greatest person and most social person I've ever met. Nobody likes me. Everybody loves Chip. He always says hello and goodbye to everyone. He studied yearbooks when he was in High School and worked in the library to learn everyone's name and would stand in the entry every morning to say hello to everyone by name. I'm bragging now but I could talk forever about him. Transitioning is getting him to a role that he can earn money and do what he is best at. He would be great in a retail environment making sure everyone is happy and providing a service but he has to learn the more specific skills to do that. He is in a post-High School program now to give him those life skills. That is what I wanted to focus on. And a question pissed me off, Nas. I think you know me well enough by now that I don't get pissed off too quickly....unless someone takes issue with David Fales. |

From the other side, I have to carry a Illinois Department of Health Services DSP (Direct Support Person) and QIDP (Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional, it wasn't even that long ago it was a QMRP and you can guess what the MR stood for) for work and it's a pretty wild swing in the quality of care. I think I've mentioned before, but the pay just sucks for someone working in a group home where they have a huge responsibility for multiple resident's quality of life. Same with Day Services, HS Transition, and Vocational Training, what it sounds like Dr. Ken is getting into. I work in the far south suburbs where there's less money though, so experiences may vary. |

Sounds like a great human, Doc. Ignore the question. Attribute it to impersonal legalese and bureaucracy. Keep doing what you're doing. |

The people that do and assist in this work are heavenly. I don't think I could do it. I have the utmost respect for anyone assisting in this. I've seen it for 20 years. It's a calling and cannot be appreciated enough. I just didn't like the preprinted question. Somebody should think about what you are asking. |

You are a good man Doc! Best wishes to you and your son, a special bond there I am sure. I have a niece who does similar work as KD. No doubt it takes a special person. They deserve a kings ransom |

More about trying to gauge what resources are needed. If a terminal illness is the reason for the admittance to the facility they can activate Hospice or Palliative care, it allows for care that focuses on comfort rather than curative care. They want to see exactly what level of care is needed and what level of treatment you want, have encountered numerous situations where the Healthcare POA or guardian has passed away and there is not a documented set of wishes for care, it than falls to a state appointed guardian and those people are often not very engaged. Hopefully you have found a good facility, see folks that are very well taken care of and those that are not, would encourage frequent unannounced visits and meetings with the administrators if you see anything that does not look right. |

Seacrest wrote: But Frank will still stay on my ignore list. You mention my name more than anybody else on this board. You probably quote me more than anyone else on this board. Whats the point of even having an ignore list if you cannot ignore the people on said list? Are you that stupid, or are you deranged? Now, speaking of not thinking....Dr. Kenneth Noisewater wrote: I just didn't like the preprinted question. Somebody should think about what you are asking. They don't think like that, or they are unable to think like that. A lot of times things like this are just a number to a medical professional. Its simply must be black and white to them. I get that they have to do a job and MANY times they must take emotion out of it, but when its a special needs person, or somebody getting bad news on their health, or any other number of situations, an emotional reaction is often times the only things you can expect from the parents or kids or whoever else is in the room. Its the whole, "Well, he should have asked you to play with the car sooner,' type of thing all over again. Like really? These are actual people, not robots. GTFO. |
