It’s official — porn is in its golden age.

Grandmas and other elderly ladies are all the rage in the world of adult entertainment, dirty new data from Pornhub shows.The company unveiled its top searches of 2023 on Thursday, exposing the world’s kinky, clandestine X-rated viewing habits.

Despite the planet’s purported obsession with youth, it appears many porn perusers are secretly scouring the web for content featuring those of a more advanced age.

The “mature” category is now the seventh most viewed worldwide, according to a Pornhub press release, surging in popularity by a staggering 69%. And no, that number is not a typo.

Searches with the word “granny” grew by 132%, while “GILF” (Grandma I’d Like to F–k) spiked by a significant 168% when compared with numbers from 2022.

Jon Ronson, who wrote Men Who Stare At Goats and The Psychopath Test, among other works, has a podcast The Last Days of August and an audiobook The Butterfly Effect about the pron industry.

Using suicided porn star August Ames (who offed herself in LA's porn valley at the age of 23, ostensibly partially b/c she had aged out of porn....sorta) as a jumping off point Ronson finds that in the current porn landscape the actresses either have to be young enough or look young enough (<23) to work in Russian teen anal gaping porn or old enough/appear old enough (32++) to appear in American grandma anal gaping porn.


Ronson's book/podcast goes from LA's porn valley to Quebec and Amsterdam and points beyond to find that the porn industry's use of tech, esp A/B testing of thumbnails, drove the production of porn toward those 2 ends of the porn spectrum.

There's also some great stories about private label porn. Like the nerdy dude who paid a porn production company $50,000 (iirc) to produce a video exclusively for his enjoyment of his favorite porn star destroying his comic book or star wars collectibles collection or maybe stamp collection via fire.
