Thankfully Billy Beane doesnt try to win every year like Kenny does, or they would be a Dynasty!

Maybe this will be the year that Beane becomes as good a GM as Kenny and wins a World Series.

The Sox have won more playoff series in their 1 World Series year than Beane has in his entire tenure to this point.

Same thing with the Twins and Gardenhire. You take the dynasty, I'll take the ring.

The playoffs and the regular season are really nothing alike in baseball. A team like the Atlanta Braves can dominate their division for more than 10 years and only win 1 title. Really the only team that's had much success repeating is the Yankees and that's because they spend more on their players than any other team.

The White Sox caught just about every break during their run to the title. If you ask Joe Buck they would probably have lost to the Angels if not for the Pierzynski play because that play helped tie the series. Also the Sox did not have to play the Yankees and they had a weak Astros team that made it to the World Series. The Sox had some of the most unbelievable pitching performances by every starter and every pitcher who came out of the pen. Plus they had timely game winning hits.

The 2005 White Sox had one of the most dominating post seasons in the history of baseball.

Kenny Williams is a better GM than Billy Beane.

Phone call over.

Both teams in town make the playoffs. What a concept. Bay Area Series!

Giants fans would welcome a rematch and payback for 89....without the quake.

They didn't spend a single day in first all year.

I believe all 4 of their playoff starters are rookies. I doubt that has ever happened before. Texas played horribly down the stretch, but what the Athletic has done with a bunch of obscure and odd parts is a thing.

I don't know about that. Yes, the World Series trumps multiple playoff (playoffs?) appearances, but Kenny is still Kenny. :P

I think until Billy has a Kenny sized Payroll that the grade would be incomplete.

MLB's playoffs are somewhat of an after thought with the NFL and other winter sports. I think the problem is they have the longest season and the shortest post-season. You have 162 games for every team and only 5 teams from each league are qualified to make the playoffs. Winning a championship requires winning 16 games in the NBA, 16 games in the NHL, 11 games in MLB and 3 or 4 games in the NFL. I don't see why they can't let more teams in.

Yet ANOTHER ALDS loss for Beane. I can't believe the guy gets universally praised. Sure, he's a good GM but when will he start taking some heat for never winning anything more than a Division series? I don't want to say he is an awful GM but that couldn't be further from the truth.

Clearly nobody thought Oakland would do anything this year and he put a team out there that won a division. All I'm saying is that if Beane is gonna get praise for making something out of nothing, he should also get knocked for his teams never being able to win in the playoffs.

Billy Beane is a very good talent evaluator.

It'd be interesting to see what he'd do with a big payroll.

Agree with Frank. Heard Millar saying this morning that Melvin should win manager of the year, or at least be co-manager of the year. I threw up Buck Showalter all over my car. Fine, you beat out Anaheim's and the Ranger's payroll. After that? Failure.

Yes, Beane evaluates talent well, but when you have Zito, Mulder and Hudson, as well as a pretty solid lineup, and the team doesn't win it all? How many times do I have to hear the guy is a giant killer when he hasn't won the world series yet?

And don't get me wrong, I do like Beane, but I have to ask how it is that his teams streak during the regular season and burn out in the playoffs on a consistent basis. There has to be something to it. I want them to win it all at least once, but this is a lot of consistent fail.

If he's constantly rebuilding and plugging in rookies & 2nd year players the grind of a regular season will nail them. They likely wear down b/c they don't have the stamina and/or experience to deal with playoff ball.

No facts/stats to support but just my guess.

But the team went on a run at the end of the season to win the division. So they wore down in a week? That doesnt make any sense.

I wish Beane would have taken the Red Sox job. It would be interesting to see what he would do with a big payroll.

Same thing Theo Epstein did.
