...and specifically Tom Brady. Thank you for being the greatest football dynasty of my lifetime. Thank you for once again qualifying for the Super Bowl. My only hope is that you will right the wrongs of SuperBowl XLII on February 3, 2008 and destroy the New York Giants. Do it for your city. Do it for people who hate the Mannings. Do it for those of us who were so upset the last time you met this team in the Super Bowl. Do it for yourselves. Do it for Ugie and I. Don't lose to these guys again....PLEASE!

80's 49ers and 90's Cowboys are better I think.

I think when you consider the changes made to the league to promote parity and discourage dynastic type teams, this Patriots run is far more impressive.

Yeah, that's why I ended it with "I think"

It is very impressive.

You might have a case with the 49ers, but I think the Patriots surpass the Cowboys. The 90s Cowboys only made three SB appearances. Yes, they won them all but still...after their last appearance in SuperBowlXXX, they pretty much fell off the map and stayed off. That's been 16 years ago.

80s 49ers and the current Patriots are about the same

The current Pats run is more impressive than the 90's Cowboys.

Winning the SB matters though. Even moreso, losing the SB as an 18-0 team matters.

But different eras, hard to compare

Cowboys dynasty came from the Big 3 and the Walker trade
49ers dynasty was Walsh and Montana/Young combined with Free Agency
Patriots is Brady, Bellicheck and good cap manipulation

All impressive

So RPB, if the Pats win this one, will you consider them to be better than the 90's Cowboys?

Hard to compare any of these. They're all impressive.

I guess Pats are the most impressive already for doing it in such a parity ridden league.

Hard to do it better than the Boys and 9ers did under their rules though

I think it the 49ers are more analagous. Superior head coaching. Great QB play. Diminished importance on the running game. Defenses that were collectively better than their individual parts.

I would have liked to see New England play San Fran. ESPN would have played up the whole "Brady playing his favorite team while growing up", or "Brady looks to best Montana's ghost" or some stupid shit, but it would have been fun to watch for me.

I obviously want the Pats to get their revenge, but I sincerely won't be devestated if they lose again to Eli. In all actuality they shouldn't even be in this position (thank you, Lee Evans), so we're kind of playing with the house's money.

The Giants are playing incredible football right now, and most of it has to do with Victor Cruz. However, Eli is making a strong argument about how his legacy should be remembered. I don't think it is too much of a stretch to suggest Peyton might get trumped in the long run by his little brother.

Brady's window is closing to win another ring, so I hope he takes advantage of this opportunity. In about three or four years the Patriots could very well be an afterthought in the NFL, so I say get what you can while you can.

Come take a small walk down memory lane, if you will.

I had never been much of a football fan growing up. Baseball and basketball were always more important to me as my father had played both extremely well. My dad liked the Bears, but no one else in my family really cared about sports (nor football) other than the Bulls and White Sox. I also played both sports, however was much better at baseball.

I had a friend in the neighborhood (the same kid I shared a story about before - "Home Run Derby") who liked to watch college football. He also liked to play video games and listen to Metallica, so I guess I have reason to blame more of my various fandoms on him besides just professional football, but I digress. Anyway, one of the video games he introduced me to was Madden NFL in or around 1993.

1993 was also the year that Drew Bledsoe was drafted by New England in the first round after playing at Washington State. The only reason I knew that at my age was because I would watch college football over at my friend's house and he would point out players he thought were "cool". So when this friend showed me Madden NFL, one of the names I recognized was Drew Bledsoe on the Patriots. I don't remember if he was rated highly in that video game or not, but I actually was able to beat my friend pretty often using that team in the video game, so I quickly thought Bledsoe was the coolest quarterback on the planet. He also gave me a reason to pay attention to NFL football. As I grew older and read more about the sport and watched more games, I began to love the team.

So, in a way, video games and good fortune happened. Trust me; I've heard it all about "jumping on the bandwagon" and "fair-weather" fandom... whatever. It doesn't bother me any more because it comes with liking a team in another city.

I will say, however, that the first NFL game I ever attended (New England vs Chicago last year) was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
