Completely owned David Stern today.

That interview will definitely help Rome's show and is terrible for Stern's already questionable reputation.

He asked him a direct non loaded question that would be on the mind of everyone listening.

without the nics and cuts of a blade

EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (non buzzer sound, just me saying "ehhh....Im not so sure)

It was clearly a loaded question, as was explained in the soundbite. If a different team had won (say one owned by a league legend in desperate need of some help) - it would have been viewed as rigged as well.

Bad question. Even worse to keep on arguing it after he clearly answered "no" the first time.

Just like Jim Everett, Rome loses in embarrassing fashion again.

Ture, but the main reason it's viewed as rigged is that the draw has defied the percentages over quite a significant sample.

Ok, thats a cool parody post, but you're wrong

It was absolutely NOT a loaded question. A loaded question suggests something to be true.

He flat out asked him. Are they fixed? Just like asking Selig about steroids or Goodell about....CTE, I suppose.

I cant speak to what happened after that, but the initial question was fine and Stern's answer was pathetic and likely offensive to many, including Rome's wife.

And saying Jim Everett won that thing could not be more wrong. Everett STILL complains that more people know him for that episode than the 200 TD's he threw. He also asked Rome for an interview/reunion/bury the hatchet thing and Rome declined.

It launched Rome's career into the stratusphere and made him the national name he is today, and it completely erased Everett's actual NFL career from the public memory

What?

To have the commissioner of the NBA on and not at least ask about the rumors of draft lottery fixing would be irresponsible journalism and a terrible interview.

Yeah, but don't you think your opinion of who won that exchange might be just a tad bit biased?

I'm glad you brought that up.

I dont care whether it was staged one way or the other but the fact that Everett seems to regret it and they still haven't reconciled seems to suggest it was legit, doesnt it?

Wouldnt someone with knowledge or someone, especially Everett, have come clean by now?

Kid, I am a HUGE Rome fan. I also like David Stern about as much as a person can like a Pro Sports commissioner without it getting weird.

I dont think Bias can enter into it because its so clear. There is no justifying the wife beating comment

IIRC, the section in the ESPN book about it indicates Rome claiming it's staged, and his producer at the time and Everett both deny it.

My guess is Rome is full of shit.

No, you dont recall correctly. You might remember reports that the book would say that, but the book ended up not saying that.

Neither Rome or Everett has said it was staged...EVER...in 16 years

ELAINE: Hey, Kramer, what was it you were having faxed to my house every 30 seconds?

KRAMER: Well, I signed up for a food delivery service, Now We're Cookin'. That's a play on words. You know, they're faxing me the menus from some restaurants.

ELAINE: Which ones?

KRAMER: Well, all of them. It's the deluxe package.

ELAINE: So this is never gonna stop?

KRAMER: Well, it better not. Paid for the whole year. So, should I pick those up later?

ELAINE: You can pick 'em up right now.

Elaine imitates the fax squeal right into Kramer's ear.

Stern was a prick and I think Rome gave him a chance to answer the question a second time and he was still a dick.

But, so what? Even if his public persona is shit, are people not going to games? or not watching?

Post subject:  Re: Jim Rome

I'm not a fan of Rome, but he came off far better in that exchange than Stern. Stern acted like a petulant brat. Rome just asked a question- a question many people have wondered about. Rome seemed like a reasonable interviewer and Stern like a douche. Don Cooper takes all kinds of heat on this board for being a miserable prick in interviews. Stern was way worse than I've ever heard Cooper be.

Yes, like a Mac hockey expert , I was commenting blindly yesterday. I heard a quick soundbite but not the wife part. That was clearly him saying "Thats a loaded question" (Which it wasnt btw)

The headlines and interwebs would have you believe otherwise.

Rome planned that. He asked him what kind of mood he was in. He knew Stern was going to react poorly. Ratings for Rome.

Rome wins. Stern will be back on the "cheap thrills" show for his 90th appearance next year

Im like Mrs. Seinfeld with Rome

How can anyone not like Rome? (You have to listen to the radio show, NOT the TV show and you need to give it a month or so to get the flavor)

Post subject:  Re: Jim Rome

Like others have said, Rome came off better in this exchange. Stern could have just shut it down and moved on. The "shame on you" shit was ridiculous. It wasn't a thought that Rome just created on his own out of thin air. I happen to think the "fixing" theory is shit personally, but a lot of people don't. You give more credence to it when you react like a total jag for no reason instead of just laughing it off like a normal person...

Post subject:  Re: Jim Rome

Yeah and the way Rome phrased it (I know you love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy in a mocking tone) you could tell he wasnt saying he believed it.

I think Stern knew he reacted harshly. He tried to lighten the mood but Rome was insulted.

The Steven A. Smith line is hilarious though. Stern might as well be in the SMACK OFF, he's been on Rome so many times.

Maybe the Hackoff after that call

Everytime I've seen Stern on Rome's show he acts like a prick. Rome gets off on getting him riled him. I bet Rome was the kid in grade school who was always instigating fights between other people. "Hey Tommy, Steve said his dad could take your dad!!! Are you gonna let him say that?"

Considering DB'ing Jim Everett for his reaction on Twitter (including repeatedly referencing Rome's wife's first name for some reason)

I get rubbing it in on a guy you dont like but reading his Twitter page, he is really enjoying this a bit TOO MUCH. Kinda sad. ReTweeting people saying how bad ass he was 16 years ago

Sad. Probably the best day he's had in years
