I'm still disappointed that his last professional game wasn't him limping off the mound in Game 1 of the 05 World Series.

Screw him.

I am sick of the government prosecuting for people lying. If you can't convict them of the underlying crime, then forget it.

Here is what they charged him with:

Clemens was charged with one count of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making a false statement and two counts of perjury.

No, but lying under oath is a good law I think. As a lawyer shouldn't you be in agreement with this one?

Obviously this case means nothing, but to completely dismiss the government prosecuting people that commit perjury is extremely eyeroll worthy.

I need a good dolphin list.

1. Laws broken that should be prosecuted.
2. Laws broken that should not be prosecuted.
3. Laws NOT written that should be prosecuted.

With zero malice intended in this post, I might find that an interesting list.

I think the winning strategy was to find an even bigger douche, Rusty Shackelford, to be the legal representation of Clemens thus making him look like less of a douche just for being in his company.

Personally I believe he is guilty as hell & hope he never makes the HOF. That said, I don't think the government should waste their time on sports related "scandals".

That likely would've taken the Ryan v. Ventura meeting on the mound as my all-time favorite non-baseball baseball moment ... ah, dare to dream ....

He should have been convicted on all 6 ...what choice did they have when this loud mouthed hillbilly demanded a congressional hearing to attempt to salvage his reputation...Everyone with a functioning brain knows he is a juiced up phony and will never sniff the hall of fame..Greg maddux is the GOAT

WRONG....Clemens will be voted into the HOF, if not on the first ballot, shortly thereafter.

I don't think it is a matter of any of your three statements. All levels of law enforcement have limited resources so there is prosecutorial discretion on every level from the beat cop making/not making an arrest on up. I think a big part of the equation in deciding when to use a resource should include whether the public safety continues to be in jeopardy by not prosecuting and whether justice has been done. In this case, there is no danger to the public safety and Clemens name is mud. However, you could make the argument that not prosecuting a well known case emboldens lesser people in the future.

Why is it when federal prosecutors get involved in sports related trials, they're absolutely the Clampetts?

They have something like a 90% success rate in everyday trials, but with sports related ones they consistently shit the bed.

I'm guessing that the quality of attorney used by the high profile athlete has a lot to do with it.
