It certainly appears to most outside observers, including me, that the jury did a fair job. I'm surprised by 45 of 48, especially so quickly, but much of the prosecution's case was damning. Sandusky will die in jail, and the only shame of it is that he spent so many years free.

That being said, I find the "oh man, I hope he gets raped and beaten to death in prison" stuff offputting (not here, just in general. The idea is out there). If we really feel comfortable about child molesters being beaten to death shortly after sentencing by convicts, then we should institutionalize that as law. We never would, because it sounds cruel and barbaric outside the heat of the moment. He'll suffer plenty in the coming months and maybe years. But his torture isn't going to help the victims, and wishing rape or murder upon anyone cheapens us as a society, even if the people we wish it upon are the lowest of the low. Sandusky isn't a threat where he is going, and he never will be again. Good riddance.
