Turning into my favorite host overall. Guy has mad versatility, is actually pretty witty (especially by comparison to his colleagues) and he has more interesting takes than most on the station.

Maybe he’d be overexposed in an everyday shift, but right now he’s got it all working on multiple different shows.

SuperSub is hitting so much, might have to find him a spot in the lineup

He has definitely grown on me over the last few years.

When Boers does decide to hang it up I wouldn't mind him being paired with Bernsie

I should try to listen some during the weekends. Supposedly that's when all the best radio takes place.

Vancouver denies this nomination! They won't stop until they have him parade down the street of their red light district carrying a cross!

@AndrewCieslak Cox is Toronto's Barry Rozner. Absolute joke.

Much like the B&B love on these boards, Rozner love is simply a case for the generally weak talent across the airwaves. I can't stand his columns- too know-it-all/I told you so. Very annoying. I find that he is one of those guys that wears on you. I think you'd find that as well if he was on everyday.

I like him quite a bit, like RPB said he has a wide range of knowledge. He is a real nice fill in or
long term sub for like a week. Anyone who can improve the morning show by his sheer
presence has to mean something.

Roz is great. He's got the smart ass wit like Boers, except Barry actually follows sports, attends games, & knows something about sports. Plus he's in the club, so he's got that going for him.

Nice to see I'm not alone in the Rozner Fan Club these days. $14.95 gets you a one-year membership, complete with an "I Joined the Barry Rozner Fan Club and All I Got was this Button" ah, button. It has small font and is perfect for picnics and formal events.

Rozner is one of my favorites, too. Doesn't take crap from Bernstein, good Cubs/Hawks guy, good Arlington Heights guy, what's not to love, really.

:) I suspect he is a nice guy. My experience comes not from the radio but from reading him in the DH since I was a kid. I have given my reasons before. Simply he falls in love with certain athletes and focuses on them too much, and then spews hate (at the Bears mostly now and Dale Talon) to the point of complete bias. I wish he was more even handed. I will admit he has great sources inside the Cubs and Hawks. I don't care for his writing style..."we told you here".

Post subject:  Re: Barry Rozner

His bias is necessary when you have most people in and beyond Chicago acting like Jonathan Toews sprung fully-formed from Dale Tallon's head like Athene from Zeus when in reality he was an average-to-above-average GM who couldn't manage money and drafted spottily at best. "Players loved him!" Of course they did! He gave them swimming pools of money because he's a dumb old jock who can't do math! You're not supposed to care about the general manager.

The worst part is that the same retarded contracts that got him fired here work to his benefit in Miami: he paid Kris Versteeg like a 27-year-old unrestricted free agent because he was an idiot, Versteeg had to be traded away, he landed back with Tallon, and now as he's a restricted free agent and the Panthers are 20,000 leagues under the cap floor, no one can afford to offer-sheet him at his going rate or anything higher because there's nothing the Panthers can't match, and so he's effectively not a free agent at all. Man, fuck that guy.

Rozner has been one of the better hosts for a while now.

Pair him with rosenbloom and I'd tape the shows and keep them in a shoebox in my basement.

Post subject:  Re: Barry Rozner

CH, I think his Tallon hatred comes from what happened in the broadcast booth (he left and came back or something). It is clearly personal. He eluded to it several years back.

I agree Tallon made some bad choices. He also went for it and got it. For all the crap I have to see as a Cubs fan, I was very pleased with what Tallon did. How many times have I heard Cubs fans say they don't care about bad contracts as long as the Cubs win once. I always argue I would rather build a long term winner that does it year after year. Basically, you can't have it both ways. But I'll take that Hawks team and even what we have left, and thank you very much Dale.

Pretty good track record, I'd say:

"He has since turned the Blackhawk franchise around by drafting young talents Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and with the acquisitions of Patrick Sharp and Kris Versteeg, among others. He has also brought in free-agent defenseman Brian Campbell to improve the team's powerplay. For the 2008-2009 season, the Blackhawks finished the season with a 46-24-12 record for 104 points to finish 4th in the 15 team Western Conference. The team made it to the Western Conference Finals, where they were eliminated in 5 games by the Detroit Red Wings, which then went on to lose in the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Since then, Tallon has added to the team by signing star winger Marián Hossa and Selke Award-winner John Madden."

You're operating on a false dilemma: it was not a matter of go all-in now or keep hanging around indefinitely and get lucky. The 2010 team as constructed could've existed without the salary cap ramifications that tore the team apart. You didn't have to give Byfuglien 9 over 3 when he slacked for weeks at a time and no one knew what his position was. You didn't have to pay Versteeg like a five-year veteran after one full NHL season. You didn't have to pay Brent Sopel as if there were a line around the block for a third-pairing meatsack. You didn't have to pay Cam Barker like he could play in the NHL at all. You didn't have to pay Huet what you paid him. That's the stuff that did him in (that and wasting top ten picks on Cam Barker and Jack Skille). He's not dispassionate or competent enough for a salary-capped league. Luckily for him, he's in a market where there's so little money on the books that he can be himself with impunity.

See, THIS is what happens.

Rozner is not JUST a hockey guy.

Bernstein tries to put him in that box because he is scared of Rozner's intellect and quick wit (something Dan just doenst have. )

CH, only one thing matters to me, and he did it. The ends justify the means. Hindsight is so much easier. He clearly made cap mistakes. He also did a ton right, and most importantly, brought us the Cup. You are 10 times smarter (or more) than me at hockey, so this will be my last post to you about it. I haven't got a shot at keeping up with you.

There are numerous executives who were involved with Bringing Us The Cup, including dat Jon McCub guy who prolly ken even skate none.

Dale Tallon also fired Peter DeBoer, who took a middling-to-bad, aging Devils team to two wins from a Stanley Cup.

There are many reasons to deride and/or adore Dale Tallon, but the ledger ultimately comes out that he has been a mixed bag as a general manager. His cap boners (not Cap Bosos) are now all but eradicated, there's no need to pine for his bygone era anymore.

CH is right in that Rozner's distaste for Uncle Dale stems from the booth, as Barry is close friends with Billy Gardner, who replaced Dale when he took a position with the team, and then got the boot down to the Wolves when Dale just decided he wanted his old job back. Additionally, Trent Yawney probably has a restraining order on Rozner, such is the man love, and Dale fired Yawney in favor of Denis Savard, who ended up getting fired himself in favor of Joel Quenneville at the behest of the Bowman family.

I've always liked Rozner. He's a solid fill-in and I like him with Spiegel on Hit and Run. He'd be the best to step in once Terry calls it a career. But I'm terrified that spot is gonna go to LoHo.

Now, I'm not a Rozner guy, per se, but if partnering him with Bernsie would cause some good uncomfortable radio, vis-a-vis Rozner arguing with Dan, and actually winning (unlike Goff and Drinky), then I'd be all for the experiment once Boers hung up his mike. Dan needs a good intellectual ass-kicking on the air. It would liven up the radio scene around these parts. But would Bernstein sanction a permanent partnership with Rozner? I'm not convinced he would.

I don't think Wolf was popular at any given time on any station(t.v. or radio) Rozner is solid...Rozner n Hood would make a good show.

That would be pretty decent.

Better yet, a 3-manner with them and Grote.

I'm telling you, Grote is the Anthony Rizzo of that station if they would just give him the callup.

I like Rosenbloom, but he sounds better on a Saturday morning.
