Get a broom or a rake you lazy fucks. Everytime I hear one of these god damn things I want to take it and shove it up the ass the person using it. Without a doubt the most annoying device ever invented. I also didn't realize how bad they were pollution wise. These bans are a great step forward for mankind.

http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2012 ... /707119929

Quote:
Arlington, Mass., has joined in the fight against noise and air pollution by banning the use of leaf blowers between May 15 and Oct. 15. This gives languid homeowners and yard crews an opportunity to blast away when most of the leaves are conveniently on the ground, in mid- and late fall.

Arlington follows Brookline, Mass., which has banned most use of the earsplitting devices in the summer.

Inevitably, of course, people will say their God-given liberties are being invaded. But what about the freedom not to have your ears drilled and to breathe air a little cleaner than the pollution that these machines emit? According to the California Environmental Protection Agency, a half-hour of leaf-blower use puts out as much carbon monoxide as a car traveling an average of 30 miles an hour for 440 miles.

That leaf blowers are obnoxious can be seen in the propensity of those hiring the yard crews that wield them to absent themselves from their premises when they’re being used. Let the neighbors suffer! The noise creates dead zones that extend out to many yards from the engines.

Wildlife flees and people go into their homes for relief.

The bid for at least partial bans on leaf blowers may be the start of a wider campaign against noise. Pressuring stores to turn off, or at least turn down, the generally awful music, or Muzak, they play would be another useful front in this war.

Meanwhile, we can hope that somebody invents a really effective and quiet electric-powered leaf blower, with some of the power produced by wind turbines. (They really are quieter than leaf blowers.) Or at least some kind of a super-muffler.

Thumbs down.

I have a corner lot. I would be working forever to clean off my sidewalks and steps and....without the blower. The leaf blower runs for 5 minutes to get all of that done. The lawn mower runs for over an hour. Maybe I should stop mowing my lawn too - you know, so I don't cause any unnecessary noise pollution.

You can make all the bans you want, and spanky is still going to annoy people. :P

Seriously, this is dumb. Let's ban everything. People are so stupid.

Why do people care about leaves being on your yard? It's outside. There are trees. Trees drop leaves.

Get a lawn mower that does a good enough job of chopping them up while you mow.

I've never used it to "rake" leaves. That doesn't really seem like it would work too well anyway.

I use it to clean off the sidewalks and driveway after I mow the lawn. Or to clean all of the crap off of the patio, etc.

Why would you need to clean anything off a sidewalk? Just leave it, and the wind will blow it away.

I gotta get it off there before I just leave the snow on it to just melt away.

The leafblowers that are used by me seem like they could blow over a small car.

Yeah that's what I mean. I'm not sure how they could be used to get dried leaves into a nice neat pile.

They are highly effective for blowing the leaves off of your property and into your neighbor's lawn though. 4 houses down.

The ones that attach like a backpack that lawn services use all day long to rake yards and especially entire apartment complexes?

Why is anyone sweeping grass off a sidewalk?

Yeah. The best part is they are so good at blowing that they can fill my covered grill with grass clippings from underneath.

Would you expect any less of the assbags who live in the Commonwealth? Horrible nomination, though not surprised to see UMN likes it.

Certain towns can actually give you a ticket if you leave grass all over the sidewalk after cutting the lawn.

I thought corner lots were worse? They certainly have less privacy and are more work to maintain?

Leaf Blowers are awesome.

July 1977. It was my everlasting summer and I could see it fading fast. The boys from James Roy Skiles Middle School had graduated and were headed to ETHS in the fall. Somehow, four of us had ended up with a mini-bike. We rode that fucker through the streets of Evanston and Skokie like hell on wheels until one day the engine took a shit. We were bumming big time. We tried everything to fix it but none of us was very mechanically inclined. We parked it in Dave Melinger's shed and tried to figure out how we were going to replace the motor.

One morning Dave called me up all excited and said I had to get over to his house quickly. I went over there immediately and found he had stolen a leaf blower from the landscaper that worked the house next door to his. The guy's name was Loreto Chiovari. Sometimes I still see his truck around the area. Thirty-five years! That's staying power.

We took apart the blower and mounted the motor on the mini-bike. She fired right up. This engine was about twice the size of the original. Man, that thing was fast. Cops weren't gonna catch me. I drove over to the Capri gas station on Dempster and filled her up. Fifteen cents! I went through the Jack-In-The-Box drive-thru next door and grabbed a few Jack Tacos to take back to Dave's house.

The joy was short lived. A couple weeks later Dave called me in a panic. "Loreto is at my door!" "Don't answer it!" Some nosy neighbor had tricked. We were cold busted. Unfortunately, we had thrown the frame of the leaf blower in the North Shore Channel or "The Canal" as we referred to it.

Dave's dad made him use his money from caddying to pay back Loreto and he took the bike to Cal & Max Yamaha on Touhy and sold it to them for fifteen bucks. They painted it and priced it at $250.

That leaf blower provided us two weeks of summer fun. Long Live Leaf Blowers! Long Live Loreto Chiovari!

The world has gone mad. People bitching about leaf blowers because they're noisy & pollute? Really? Whats next, NASCAR makes the Chevy Volt mandatory?
