Comedian and "Roastmaster General" Jeffrey Ross is known for his outrageous roast attire, but he outdid himself this time around. Ross arrived on the red carpet dressed as the late Penn State coach, Joe Paterno, flanked by boys outfitted with football helmets and gym towels.

Ross' entrance on the red carpet was met with both gasps and peals of laughter from the assembled reporters and photographers. But he wasn't just out to make a joke. He was a man on a mission the entire night: to stand up for comedy.

Explaining to reporters on the red carpet, Ross said that the “P” on his jacket stood for “People who can take a joke.”

He went on, “If they’re offended by what they see, they can do what Joe Paterno did – look the other way.”

Too bad no one will see it as Comedy Central is cutting the joke.

And I didn't want to hear from some whiney asshole that he was out of line or they are offended or some other such shit.

(not pointed towards you two obviously ... just a pre-emptive move to not have to deal with it)

It was probably a horrible joke.

But comedy and satire shouldn't be fucking censored.

I'm offended that the Paterno thing is a bad joke.
There were other avenues to go down to make it better.

Agreed. Sometimes "Go too far guy" goes too far just for the sake of going too far and the joke is not that good

Like the Seth Green one. Could have framed that way better. Probably better to aim it at Tom Arnold too but whatever.

I think going too far is Jeff Ross making a "no one remembers what he did" joke. If it wasn't for these comedy central roasts he'd be as well known as an extra in a Seth Green movie.

Very Wannestedt-ian logic, but they do exist, and Ross is the Roastmaster General for good reason: he's fucking brilliant at it.

brilliant is waaaaaaay too far

He's not even always the funniest one

He's just the guy that attached himself to it

Even with these roasts, Seth Green is far more well known than Jeff Ross.

He's alright, but there is always 3 or 4 people who are just as funny as him in these things. He's just known for it because virtually everyone else has done other more noteworthy things.

It's subjective. I think he's the best at it and stand by what I wrote, but I respect your opinion.

Here's a recap from Stern's show yesterday. I thought this was pretty funny:

For example, Jeff remembered a joke he’d made about Penny Marshall: “I learned a lesson on that one, Howard, because, like you said, it was behind her back.” At the Friar’s Club roast of Rob Reiner, Jeff had joked: “How do you even embarrass a guy who married Penny Marshall? What was your wedding song? ’How Much is that Doggy in the Window’?”

Later, when he was hired to roast the Maloof Brothers, Penny was in the audience, heckling Jeff from Vince Neil’s lap: “Then she started coming toward the podium, and I said, ‘Whoa whoa whoa--which one were you? Lenny or Squiggy?’” Penny immediately backed down, humiliated, but Jeff found himself disinvited from the Maloofs’ afterparty.

I thought the clips of the roast on the Stern show were funny, especially the Seth Green jokes.

There was more child rape jokes with Tom Arnold expressing his sorrow for Roseanne's diddler. She replied she was glad he found another women, someone who was not with him just for her money.
