Now that is the way to hold a protest! Chicago regains it's labor roots, at least for one day. |

This really is a beautiful thing. I'd be nervous about some bomb throwers in the crowd if it wasn't filled with so many young hotties. |

Getting 3 months off a year and getting done at 330 has to be hell on a person. |

Teaching other people's kids is hard work but when I see my teacher friends posting bullshit statuses about being off all summer, I lose some sympathy. |

You shouldn't let that Facebook stuff deter you. I'm very close to a couple of teachers. Theirs is a job that truly not everyone can do. And the teachers who really take the time to care...they're more important than people realize. |

Those that are lazy pieces of shit usually get to tenure and get even worse, just now they can't be fired for being bad at their job. |

Well yeah, it's true that there's good and bad in every profession. But I'd never try to downplay the importance of teachers. |

Revolution has always been incubated in the student/teacher class. Maybe a few of these young people are getting their first taste of labor struggle and it activates them |

I used to be a "them" and I had the chance to go through a labor/contract dispute my first year at a school I taught it. It left me a bit cynical on the matter. |

For those that disagreed with the Wisconsin governor, maybe now they wish someone could fix the Chicago Public School Teacher's Union like they did in Wisconsin. |

Not to mention the hooligans that are there. Remember the teachers last year that where attacked by their students? |

I can't support any organization that would have this as it's president: She seems like the stupidest laziest fuck that could ever get such a high position. Everytime she speaks I want to drive my foot through my TV. I'm as pro-Worker as it gets, but I hope Rahm crushes this thing so bad, that the teachers drag this fat bitch out on the street and light her ass on fire. |

I don't think that the main problem in the CPS is the teachers. I also don't think anything in the CPS will improve by paying the teachers more money. To me, this whole things is an exercise in greed by both sides. Neither side gives a shit about improving the school system. |

I haven't followed the specifics. They've been offered an 11% raise? 16%?? But they want more benefits too?? And many of them are huge 300+ lb cows out picketing??? |

i'm guessing it's the part about performance evaluation that bugs them. I don't blame them on that count. evaluation won't be done in a meaningful way but rather "take a spin on test score roulette." |

The state wants schools to install evaluation tools for teachers that hey have not finished making yet. Wit the new evals, tenure means a lot less. In fact two bad evals in a 7 year period can get you fired. Unlike under the old system where you basically could not. You can also keep a teacher lower on the totem pole if they have better evaluations when districts have to riff people. Which is how it should be. Teachers who are bad and lazy need to be fired. Most districts chose not to becuase it cost more money in legal fees than the risk of forgetting one document or procedure and having to star the whole process over. |

As long as the teachers get to pick and choose which high performing students they have in their class I dont see that being a problem. |
