FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a proud graduate of Marquette high School in Ottawa, IL. (Class of 1987)...I also broadcasted football and basketball games on the radio for both Marquette and Ottawa...Yes...i am a homer as a boradcaster.

Ottawa, Illinois has two high school football teams...The public school, Ottawa Township and the catholic high school, Marquette, each school has had success at various points in their history...Marquette finished 2nd in the state in Class 3A in 1984 and Ottawa advanced to the Class 5A quarter finals in 1995 before losing to Mount Carmel.

This season, Marquette left their old conference the Big Rivers Conference and joined the Northeast Athletic Conference...the new conference has teams that was more Marquette's size enrollment-wise.

Both the Pirates and Crusaders finished the regular season 9-0 which has never happened in the town's history...Both team grabbed #2 seeds in their respective brackets and Marquette will play Luther North of Chicago on Friday night and Ottawa will host Normal Community on Saturday.

What makes the Marquette story even cooler was that two years ago in the Big Rivers Conference...the Crusaders finished the season 0-9. Last season (Marquette's last in the BRC), they were 2-7.

I really believe that had Marquette stayed in the Big Rivers...They would have eventually had to drop football. Now the program has gotten a second life.
