(as I said. no, not a joke post) http://mashable.com/2012/10/29/tablets-ethiopian-children/ Not a very long read, but imho very, very interesting. First paragraph, to give you the idea .... With 100 million first-grade-aged children worldwide having no access to schooling, the One Laptop Per Child organization is trying something new in two remote Ethiopian villages—simply dropping off tablet computers with preloaded programs and seeing what happens. |

I just picture some kid with no shoes,a swollen stomach and no clothes playing Angry Birds. I think there are about 1000 other things you can be doing in Ethiopia besides handing out laptops. |

Who knows what seeds were planted in those kids with knowledge? Maybe one of those kids will one day find a cure for something or do something that will help their village. |

I'm trying to become a more worldly, compassionate and caring poster. I'm hoping some of you have noticed the change already. Hasn't stopped you from piling on me, if you'll pardon the expression. |

There's an aspect in particular that's interesting to me, insofar as how impactful (not a word) is to this situation, which is this: there is absolutely no concept whatsoever of what they 'cannot' do. I don't mean "forbidden activities" such as "hacking" or things like that .... they don't know what the hell that is let alone that they're doing it. Rather, whatever they conceive of they do, likely (imho) because there's nothing and noone telling them that it's impossible, implausible, not possible, or even that it would be surprising if they could accomplish x, y, or z. Like RNM & OKC clearly see, not only is it a nice story in and of itself, it's also a really interesting study that I hope and wish would continue for some time and not get corrupted, purposefully or not. |

Changes in government has resulted in a much healthier nation with a thriving farming industry. People immigrate to Ethiopia from bordering countries. |
