A honest, emotional response to the tragedy in Connecticut. His voice broke a few times in transition. I appreciate that he took the time to express his thoughts.

So he deserves a shoutout? How is he any more important than the rest of the parents on this board who expressed thoughts here and via Facebook?

Never said he was more important -- relax!
I'm sure I would have received the same response from some posters if I would've praised Obama.
I'm going to DB Huckabee -- wonder how many posters I'll tick off with that post?

Complete missing of the point, Frank.

Just listened to it, as a father Dan's reaction was pretty much what a lot of ours was Im willing to bet. My first thought was the same, to drive to daycare and pick up my son and just take him home and smother him with hugs and kisses. Its hard to articulate that protective thing you get when you have kids because believe me before I did,I was most definitely, quite naturally a self preservationist at heart, all for me , all of the time. I thought he was pretty heartfelt and while I hate his fucking guts I certainly respect and understand his what I hope was heartfelt reaction and sentiments in that moment and not some of the quasi-manufactured scrap he spouts most of the time.

I know that was hard for you to do, but I respect that. I'm also glad that Berns was able to compartmentalize the silly quasi-anger that he directs at his callers and realize that when things like this happens, they take precedent over everything else.

Dan was devistated to hear that 20 children got shot. Dan loves his children.

Guess what? Everybody was devistated to learn that 20 children got shot. All parents love their children.

I really don't understand why he is to be praised.

For being human on the air for once and treating this like the tragedy it is, instead of turning this into one of his radio agendas, ala Penn State.

I see. So we praise ass holes when they cease being ass holes after 20 kids are shot and they take the proper tone? Gotcha. I guess I have a higher bar when it comes to praising somebody.

I don't think there's anything wrong with giving credit where credit is due. Hell, I even give you credit when you occasionally make a good point about something.

I don't think he should get a shoutout or any extra accolades for reacting to something like this. He's human, and he was honest. Doesn't matter if he's on radio or is generally an asshole or not. Doesn't deserve special recognition.

He may turn it into a months long gun control debate next week. You never know.

So when Bernsie does not act in a way people want he should be criticized incessantly. But when he shows real human emotion and compassion he is not allowed to be praised.

Stupid.

It's stupid to think otherwise. You don't get praise for crying over the shooting of children just because it's not your norm to have comapssion for anything. Was there really an expectation that he wouldn't have compassion these poor children and parents? I'm done repeating myself. If you don't understand, you never will.

How exactly is it stupid to say someone shouldn't be praised for doing something normal people just do? Chris Rock even has a famous bit about the concept.

Congrats Dan on acting like a normal human being for one day! You want a cookie?

If it was a regular person in a regular situation you would be right.

However, Dan gets criticized all the time for not being a normal guy, not having normal reactions, etc. So if people are going to criticize him for that stuff, then why is it not acceptable for people to give him some props for doing what people seem to think he should.

Author:  FavreFan [ Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:32 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Dan Bernstein

Because people, regular or not, should not be praised for doing what every normal person just does without thinking. That's why.

So that puts him in a no win situation. If he responds as normal people bitch. If he responds the way they want him to then they bitch.

Not really. I'm not bitching or criticizing him. I'm just saying praise is unwarranted. It's fine if you disagree.

It amazes me how many people give a shit what the great Dan Bernstein says or thinks. I followed him for maybe 3 days on Twitter a year or so ago before I couldn't handle it anymore.

Who gives a flying fuck what Dan Bernstein thinks! The guy is a pompous self-righteous ass.

A whole lot of people because there's comments all over the board about what Bernstein thinks of something or trying to predict how he'll react to a game, many from people who think he's a pompous self-righteous ass.

Yea I know. And I don't get it. I remember when he started I thought maybe here's a guy who will provide some thoughtful insight in sports radio (a rarity). Instead, he offers little if anything except shouting at people he perceives as beneath him.

A waste of talent.
