I would have to agree with mully. Emery should have vision of what he wants and a clear plan to execute that vision. Interviewing 20 candidates is ridiculous. Giving Singeltary a courtesy interview is a fucking joke as well. It appears as if he is window shopping for a HC. Know what you want and go get it. |

Rooney rule. I figured basic probability would have ensured compliance with that rule given the number of candidates already. |

Why wouldn't a Bears fan want Emery to exhaust all options in searching for a coach? |

I wonder if the Bears are allowing anyone interested to take a phone interview. IE, anyone who wants to "apply" gets some time. |

Agree that getting who you want is most important, just don't understand why singletary is getting a look. |

@danpompei: Add Dave Toub to the list of candidates who have interviewed for Bears HC. |

But they will still end up with "the guy they wanted all along!" |

Terry's Peeps wrote: Why wouldn't a Bears fan want Emery to exhaust all options in searching for a coach? Don't you think this approach couch put them in the danger zone of being swayed by a guy who interviews better than he coaches. When you have a smaller list of candidates that all have the basic things you are looking for they are much easier to compare. As you widen the field you have a ton more philosophies and differences making them much harder to compare and then you can fall victim to whomever is the best salesman. |

I know what you mean, but I would rather they interview a lot of people instead of going after one guy and maybe missing out on the next big thing. |

Saying no could establish his power, but it could also create an unnecessary rift. |

No no no, I was 100% agreeing with you. Going in with your mind made up is a silly notion, IMO. I would rather the Bears do what they are doing, than publicly swing and miss like the Eagles/Browns. |

Maybe he is just jerking everyone around and picking their brains while he waits for Seattle to be finished with their season so he can hire Bevell. He seems to run a well balanced offense, has spent a great deal of time working in the division and also worked very well with a QB who had some of the same shortcomings as Jay. Don't get Jay another guy who is going to hold his hand or who held his hand in the past....get someone that has experience working with an mvp caliber gunslinger with questionable mechanics. |

Hub says a lot of dumb shit but I liked his point on the Bears coaching search. While they are interviewing a lot of candidates they aren't interviewing all the best candidates. Mike Zimmer, Ray Horton, Vic Fangio and any other defensive assistants have all been ignored. The job is for head coach not offensive coordinator. |
