the 46th ward Alderman has come under fire for permitting Herbert Govert Jr. to catch and remove hundreds of Pigeons from his ward. The Indiana man (Govert) uses the pigeons to train bird dogs in Indiana(he catches the birds by baiting an area with food and then shoots a net over the birds). They release birds one at a time and the hunter tries to shoot the bird, while his dog is supposed to retrieve the bird if successfully shot. Animal rights groups have complained about the fact that Cappleman gave to go-ahead to remove the pigeons, even though Cappleman has explained the great damage that the pigeons droppings have caused to buildings in the area these birds were trapped, have resulted in buildings on Broadway being vacant. It seems the highly acidic droppings have eaten away at roofs on Broadway that previously had businesses occupying the buildings. Now, the buildings are vacant and drug dealers use them to conduct business around after schools let out in the area. Further, the droppings pose a great health risk. Animal activists have suggested anti-roosting spike strips but they don't work and the birth control pellets are expensive and there is no budget for them. The solution that was hatched by Cappleman that involved Govert's help cost the city nothing and it rid the city of hundreds of flying rats. Kudos to Ald. Cappleman
