Went here today. What a terrific selection! I love used bookstores, and this one has to be my favorite. I got a new copy of The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat (lost my old copy in a breakup), a book about the plight of the Jews in the Soviet Union, and Women and Gender in Early Modern Wales. I can explain! Close friend of mine is in grad school for medieval studies, also happens to be a feminist, also took some Welsh. So I'm thinking upon seeing this giant medieval history section if maybe there's something up her alley. So there it is, eye-level, dead center of the shelf. Had to! And then as a bonus, I got a copy of Trainspotting for free, sitting outside in a box by the door. Total expenditure: $19 even. If you like cheap books and the used bookstore atmosphere, make sure you get here! It has to be the best one in the city, and I've been to a good handful. I especially like the basement, where you feel for all the world like you're somewhere you're not supposed to have gone. Only problem was I had to take the Metra Electric, which has a weird, Twilight Zone-y feel to it relative to the regular Metra. I don't know if it's the weird ramps where there shouldn't be ramps making me trip and fall like a schmuck, or the lack of recorded voice and just a conductor yelling out stop names, or the recorded voice where there wouldn't be one on the platform telling me over and over and over that an inbound train is coming in 1 minutes [sic]. Worst of all, the 57th Street station really, really smells of piss. People are always like "herp derp chiacgo is a dirty city lol smells like piss" and I've never really agreed, but that station? Holy shit. Pissssss. BUT SHIT MY BOOK WAS 99 CENTS |

I can't believe I lost the CSFMB March Madness to a book reader. Friggin' Commie. |

There is nothing like a good used book store. Unless it is a used occult book store |

Agreed on the used book store love. We have one in town that just expanded. Not a lot of rare books but a good selection nonetheless. Also has movies and CD's. |

There is also a place I went into in Morton Grove on Dempster years ago. This guy had every old magazine you can think of. I bought an old Hockey Preview mag with WHA predictions. I love stuff like that. |

I like to look used book stores for a bit, but then then air always gets to me. Back in the day the owner would likely be a smoker with three cats lying about. I love abebooks.com. Order a lot of used books. usually $1 plus $5 shipping. BTW, didn't Mini Ditka get banned for this sort of thread? |

No, Mini Ditka got banned for asking which brands of hot dogs people preferred. I praised a bookstore I went to on a Saturday afternoon and shared my tales of cut-it-with-a-knife-thick urine vapors on the Metra Electric viaduct. |

Curious Hair wrote: BUT SHIT MY BOOK WAS 99 CENTS I'm confused by this statement. Your book as in one of the three you bought (or two that you bought for yourself,) or your book as in your book that you wrote? |

I was just making a stupid reference to a stupid song. I didn't put much thought into the clarity of it. |

Pro tip, don't buy the used books where the pages stick together, no matter the price. |
