They seemed much different then cinderellas of the past. They seemed more athletic and poised than either of the higher seeds they beat. Also, neither upset was actually all that close.

They represent Florida well with the future felons of america look to just about everyone but the czech guy.

I went to high school with Dave Balza, the first basketball coach at FGCU, who started the program in 2001 and took them through transition into D1, then was fired after the 2011 season. He had coached at St. Josephs (IN), Cleveland State and Ashland after being a grad assistant on Michigan's championship team in 1989.

Last time I spoke to him in person, he lamented never being able to keep his recruits in the program long enough to have the top kids in all five spots- get a good guard, lose your big. keep a good big, have no assist guys, etc.

I need to reach out to him, but I imagine this Cinderella run hurts to watch

Without question, Florida Gulf Coast is THE story of this year's NCAA Basketball Tournament. They've only been a Division I school for 6 years, and are only in their second year of eligibility. What they've done to #2 Georgetown & #7 San Diego State to this point are remarkable. It was so cool, FGCU players came to courtside to shake hands with CBS/Turner Sports' Kevin Harlan, Reggie Miller & Len Elmore at courtside, the announcers who called their bracket in Philadelphia as they finished the jobs.

They will get the Marv Albert/Steve Kerr/Craig Sager primetime treatment late Friday night in Arlington, TX, site of the NCAA South Regional. Marv, Steve & Craig have been commissioned by CBS/Turner to call their game with #3 Florida at approximately 9:07P or so on TBS. Wouldn't it be something if they beat the heavily favored Gators in the "House that Jerry (Jones) Built"? Even if they don't win, the FGCU story has been a feelgood story and then some.

I've been going to Rensellear since I was born. I always loved my trips there. That place is a cowtown but is the most urban area in the county. The "downtown" area around the county square has been vacant for as long as I can remember.
