so how bad do you have to be at basketball to be Danny Manning's kid and not get a scholarship SOMEWHERE to play basketball? Oh, and nice cheeseball mustache on Self's kid. You are going to inherit millions in the future, dipshit. Start looking like it. |

I don't know how good Danny Manning was at Kansas, but he was a mediocre pro. |

good enough to single handedly bring Kansas a championship Take a look at that Kansas roster in his championship year. Danny Manning is in the picture for all time greatest college basketball players. |

The guy was one of the few "once in a lifetime talents" to live up to the hype, at least through college 6'10" with the ball handling skills of a guard and the interior moves of a center....he made it look easy |

Manning all time NCAA Team! Incredible NCAA Tourney run. Essentially, there was nothing he didnt win. All American, Wooden, NCAA MVP, etc. |

I'd say he was a "good" or "solid" player in the NBA... |

Krazy Ivan wrote: I'd say he was a "good" or "solid" player in the NBA... That's because he played for 14 years with over half of them when he was working on knee injury #3. He was ascending up until that time filling up every bracket of the scorecard. |

Similar to Penny he was a guy that would have likely been a HoFer if he didn't have 90 knee injures. |

Danny Manning is in the picture for all time greatest college basketball players. I think they were a #6 seed that year, so they were far from a complete team. His tourney in '88 was one of the best that I have seen in my years. Glen Rice in '89 was pretty good, too. |

Nas wrote: The Original Kid Cairo wrote: I don't know how good Danny Manning was at Kansas, but he was a mediocre pro. What do you consider mediocre? yeah seriously, by those semantics danny manning was the upper-end of mediocre.... wasn't he a ~16-18ppg for a really good # of years, something in the 6-8 range? IIRC he always played solid defense and was competent enough to be in the mid-teens for scoring, and he lasted for quite awhile. i think at his absolute peak he had an 18-20ppg year or two... otherwise, for a ~4 dropping 16/7 or whatever you could do a lot worse. again, this is all if memory serves... |

hrmm a perfunctory glance @ basketball-refernece.com indeed shows that for the first ~1/2 of his career he was indeed a solid upper-teens/lower-20s player (he had 3 seasons of averaging 20+ in the middle of his career) but i think his problem was playing for the clippers in the late 80s / early 90s and he got to phoenix a year or two too late to be a factor on those barkey-led contending teams. nonetheless, he had a good ~7 year run of starting from 88-95, averaging 18.9/6.4/3.1/1.5(steals) then he turned into a bench guy in phoenix b4 his career fell totally off of the cliff. during those years in ~27mins/game he gave you 13.4/5.4, which is still a solid contribution. so i wouldn't necessarily call him a mediocre player, per say.... i'd say he was a good solid player who very well might have been robbed of bonafide stardom by the aforementioned knee injuries, but prior to a few years of basketball irrelevance after a stint in phoenix he was a good solid serviceable high IQ player.... for some reason he always reminded me of grant hill, albeit hill was a couple'a inches shorter and always played the 3, not to mention grant's upside and injuries were always a far bigger factor for him. btw, speaking of falling off of a cliff..... grant hill looks like he's finally hit the wall. i was amazed that he always managed to average 10ppg every single year of his career no matter how much/often injury prevented him from getting out there / maximizing-his-effectiveness. this year as a clipper he's averaging ~3.4pts in ~16mins. i guess there aren't enough shots going around in the limited time grant gets out there for. |

He put up respectable numbers but he never put together a long enough stretch of health. Plus, the whole drafted by the Clippers thing. His career is similar to Sean Elliot and it could have been Scottie Pippen BTW, a movie about Bill Belicheck travelling back in time to stop the Manning's from exceling in football but he gets all mixed up and ends up fathering them both is in the works. |

Just never was much of a fan. he had zero flash, thus never caught "Kids's " eye, but effective as anyone in College. Had a little bit of that Stacey King syndrome. Shot from the chest, which works as a 6'10"+ guy in college. Eat that shit in the League. |
