Evidently they looked out for their guy Bartman...

Rodriguez on Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS when Cubs fan Steve Bartman attempted to snag a foul ball that prevented Cubs left fielder Moises Alou from making the grab for the second out of the eighth inning:

“That wasn’t the game there. … Chicago fans always think that it was his fault. For us, it was great. He had a lot of trouble in Chicago and he couldn’t go on the streets, (so) we bring him to Florida. I’m not kidding. (Morgan: “Did you give him a ring?”) Yeah. He was a firefighter. They fired him from his job and all that, and I say, ‘Poor guy.’ This is a true story. What we did is contact the guy and we moved the guy to Florida. He lives in Florida right now. He works in the same job in Florida. He’s a fireman over there. We got a home for him and he lives a normal life.”

Nice gesture from the Marlins, seeing as Cubs fandom is the type that is prone to, say, hang severed goats heads from the Harry Caray statue in both 07-08 and wonder why the curse isn't lifted.

He still does and my wife interacts with him on a regular basis. Let's not take that out of context.

So, none of that is true then

Exactly. Apparently it wasn't enough for I-Rod to put up a bunch of phony numbers, now he has to make up phony stories too.

I'll tell you a real story. A good friend of mine who is a heavy memorabilia collector gave me a large framed photo of the Bartman incident signed by Moises Alou. I even have the authentication along with photos of Alou signing it. He also bought one for himself.

So, my friend who gave me the picture happens to have a business associate who is best friends with Bartman. One day the two of them are out to lunch and my friend asks the guy if he could prevail upon Bartman to sign our pictures for us. The guy is incredulous and asks my friend if he is insane. He said he wouldn't even think of asking Bartman such a thing.Bartman just wants that shit in the past. He never made a dime off that shit, he sure isn't going to sign anything for you.

At the end of the lunch my buddy is grabbing the check when an idea hits. So he says to the guy, "Do you ever go out to eat with Bartman?" The guys says, "He's my best friend. Of course we go out to eat sometimes." So my friend says, "Well, maybe the next time Bartman picks up the check you can grab the signed receipt off the table. I'll pay you for it and I can stick it under the frame of my picture."

Bringing shame to the name... :(

It's shame his name had to come out initially when it never should have. People ruined the guy's fucking life when all he did was sheepishly go after a baseball. The damn guy next to him did the same thing. I'll never forget those pricks in the park who looked like they wanted to lynch him. It was a shameful moment for Chicago and baseball . And these fucking networks can't leave the guy alone, they have to constantly bring up his name, so this will be his ultimate legacy.
