All rivalries aside, they are a pretty good lot...like a state full of Shakespearean rustics....friendly, unpretentious, full bodied rubes who are always happy to add one to the party.

They can all shove the FIB nickname right up their wide, unwashed collective asses.

I have just returned from the North Country myself.

They really do have a lot of cheese and all of it is quite good. I think Beer Cheese Soup should be made more available back here in the civilized world.

Also, the papers up there really spend a lot of time breaking down the Graham Harrell/BJ Coleman battle to hold Aaron Rodgers clipboard - with frequent references to Pro Football Weekly's rating of Harrell as the worst 2nd string QB in football.

But, come on Coleman, you can't throw 2 picks in the 2-minute drills and expect to get off the practice squad! I'm here also, if anyone wants to breakdown linebacking crew for UW football this year.

Also, stories about people from Wisconsin doing things for other sports teams. Front page stories. Like Jordan Zimmermann setting a new personal wins record for a season. It's like a small-town paper for a whole state.

only Wisconsinites would be able to figure out the way to make cheese curds better is to deep fry them and serve them with ranch dressing. My only question is, why did you stop short of wrapping it in bacon.

While I enjoy my trips to Wisconsin, some food upgrade wouldnt be the worst thing.

Even the Brat stop not putting the brat on the open flame grill.

Brat stop = bad.

On the other hand they do awesome open flame brats in the parking lot at the piggly wiggly in wautoma.

I was at the Brat Stop once, actually I think maybe with Doug??? To see some reggae band.
I was marvelling at the carpeted bar area, thinking, how stupid is it to have carpet in a bar?
Like three minutes after I say something about this a big ol dude honks right there on the carpet.

No one seemed to care.

We left shortly thereafter.

Agreed. Attended the State Fair this weekend and had a blast. First thing I see upon entering is a booth selling "beer donuts". Adjacent to that was a deep fried Snickers & Milky Way kiosk. We opted for deep the fried sliders from the Bud tent ("deep fried" appears on an inordinate amount of menus). If you only eat one thing, the famous cream puffs are worth the price of admission. Best of all, unlike the Illinois Fair (thanks Jim Edgar), Beer vendors were ubiquitous (the Sprecher booth was my favorite :drunken: ).

For all the FIB stuff, I have rarely had bad experiences with normal Wisconsinites. You could easily complain that people up that way may not have the same hustle as people in Chicago, but that shouldn't be held against them.

The biggest gripe I have about this state is that you have to order stuff one lower than what you want (i.e. medium rare steak should be ordered rare).

Good people generally. Though occassionally you'll run into too much pride in Wisconsin guy who just cant believe you live down in the flatlands! How do you even live down there?

Enjoyed the food and the classic supper club vibe. Very good prime rib and fish. Definitely an older crowd though. The extra charges for upgrades ($4 for a double-baked potato  ) put a damper on my mood when I paid the bill however.

I've been to Wisconsin 4 times. The Dells, Chetek, Rhinelander, and Tomahawk. All were pleasant experiences. It's the only place I've been where there are supper clubs. The portions were ridiculously unhealthy and large.
