Thanks to my residual DePaul fan bitterness, I hated Bird....until I heard that comment. Always respected him, always feared what he would do to my teams, but I hated him from his Final Four days . Heard that story & I've loved him as a basketball great ever since.

Wasnt there a pretty good story from ML Carr or Cornbread Maxwell ( they all look alike) about one of Birds first practices with the Celtics and they were gonna D up on him and welcome him to big boy NBA basketball and Bird hit 3 or 4 in a row from successively farther back with whomever was guarding him right in his face and thats when they knew this kid was gonna be something special.

This is a fun little watch. Just over 6 minutes and it's pretty on point.

Bird is great and I know this is not the point of the thread, but I'm not surprised the Pacers were left speechless by a guy in his 50s. That team is overrated...unless they can flip the perpetually crippled Granger into another scoring threat. Then they'd be a bit more intriguing.

One of mine too. A little ironic considering he's only a 38% career 3pt shooter, you'd think he was a better shooter than that. Almost 50% FG for his career though so he lit it up when he want shooting 3's thats for sure.

Doc, you should be old enough to know how DePaul captured the city. Hell, I never would have rooted for the Illini against DePaul when I was in Champaign. I really didn't earn my orange t-shirt until about 2004.

It's a little hard to compare Reggie to Lebron. Many of the guys on this board could probably out-muscle Reggie, while Lebron is the strongest player in the game, and flails around like he's John Lucas III.
