Cool story, maybe one day he will be good enough to approach top 10 all time. We know that Michael Jordan still has game, and could probably re-join the NBA at 50 without missing too many beats. But how about Dream Team teammate Larry Bird? He’s apparently still good enough to leave an NBA team speechless and unsure of whether to continue practicing or just quit altogether. Paul George spoke to Slam Online recently, and relayed this anecdote about shooting around in the gym with the Pacers’ team president: SLAM: I believe you had talked about seeing Larry shoot in the gym. PG: He picked a ball up that had rolled over. He rolled up his sleeves and made about 15 in a row and just walked out like nothing just happened. It was the craziest thing I’ve seen. SLAM: How did you and the rest of the team react? PG: We were speechless. We didn’t know whether to keep shooting or just to end practice. It was sweet, man. Bad. Ass. Hey, if Steve Novak can make a career out of spotting up for three and not much else, why can’t Larry [make a second career out of the same thing]? We’d love to see an ancient Bird and an ancient Jordan (assuming he joins up with the Bulls, not the Bobcats) battling it out for supremacy once again. |

Larry Legend is still the best shooter in that organization. He should play MJ in a game of horse for the Bobhornets. |

Larry's "who's coming in 2nd" story from the All-Star 3-point contest is always one of my favorites. |

Heard that story & I've loved him as a basketball great ever since. I'd pay for a tape of Bird trash talking on the court to this day. |

A little ironic considering he's only a 38% career 3pt shooter, you'd think he was a better shooter than that. Almost 50% FG for his career though so he lit it up when he want shooting 3's thats for sure. |

They thought they were gonna kill him. Then they tried again. Then they apologized. (it was on the NBA Network Bird special not to long ago) |

Bird is great and I know this is not the point of the thread, but I'm not surprised the Pacers were left speechless by a guy in his 50s. That team is overrated...unless they can flip the perpetually crippled Granger into another scoring threat. Then they'd be a bit more intriguing. |

B&B's exceptionally quick dismissal of Larry Bird's top 10 status is all the more confounding considering he is every bit the player Magic Johnson ever was. |

They want to pre-empt any possible accusations of liking a player for being white. It's not confounding at all, as long as you don't look at it from any reasonable perspective. |

I would disagree with that, but then I'd say Magic was the greatest non-center ever to play the game. I'd say their dismissal of Bird is confounding because it is based on nothing but the color of his skin. |

Doc, you should be old enough to know how DePaul captured the city. Hell, I never would have rooted for the Illini against DePaul when I was in Champaign. I really didn't earn my orange t-shirt until about 2004. |

Cant play defense, drive the lane, rebound, etc. They sit out on the line and wait for clean open shots. I will even give Reggie Miller his due. He tried to get the 3 shot, but he didnt sit out there waiting for it, however, he did keep backing up to get that shot, so he was shooting 30+ footers many times. When I hear Reggie talking about Lebrons flopping....ughhh.,,did he forget that created a rule to stop him from almost doing the same thing. |

The Aguirre Cummings Comegys era is what turned me on to being a fan of basketball on tv and also an introduction on what's it's like to be a fan of chicago sports and get your heart broken. DePaul was the shit back in the day |

Took the Heat to 7 games though vegan, they cant be that bad Yes they did make it interesting, but to me their presence in the East Conf. Finals is due to a lack of competition, mainly from the Rose-less Bulls. If they were in the West with OKC, SA, Denver, and Memphis, I don't think they ever make it as far as the conference finals. |

It's a little hard to compare Reggie to Lebron. Many of the guys on this board could probably out-muscle Reggie, while Lebron is the strongest player in the game, and flails around like he's John Lucas III. |

Not to be a dick but my grade school coach who was a band teacher would hit like 10-15 in a row from half court a few times a season during practice He was offered a scholarship somewhere but pursued music |
