Thank God for these two men and thank God I was listening today! They saved me from bothering to watch an entire college football season. I now know that no matter what happens Alabama is the real national champion regardless of whether they have 3 losses and Ohio State or Texas has but one or even none. According to these football experts, if Alabama doesn't earn the right to play in the championship game, "everybody" knows they are still the best team and the real champion. Now I know it too. Thanks, guys! |

Right, college football is shit, and it's an entirely worthless waste of time to watch it. Plus it's scummy as fuck. |

I have a feeling they would've taken a similar stance had San Antonio beaten Miami |

The funny thing is by adding in a "playoff" that you take down the chances by a good margin that the "best team" will win.As I've said all along, Dan Bernstein should absolutely love the BCS for the exact same reasons he hates the NCAA basketball tournament. |

I wish bernstein would really make a commitment to his philosophy that there is one winner and everything and everyone else is pointless. he is the best at nothing. he should commit suicide immediately. |

college football is so fucking sleazy, it might actually be entertaining. not the games, just the drama around it. I might have to start paying attention. |

Scorehead, that's just a wrong statement. I believe the kids call that statement "fail". |

For those of you who prefer pro football, what is it that makes it better than college football for you? I assume the speed and skill of the players is part of it, but pretty much all pros play in college. Is it just watching the best vs. the best or is it something else? |

College football off season scandal: Quarterback from a rich family signs autographs and may have gotten some money for them.NFL off season scandal: A player kills another person and is seemingly the head of or involved in a criminal organization and is now being linked to other murders and massive amounts of drug use and possible distribution. There is something seriously wrong with thinking that the NFL is any less sleazy than college. |

If you're a fan of something, why wouldn't you try to see it, at least occasionally? Why is such a concept so strange to you? A lot of people are just fans of television. |

I'm a fan of the band Television. While Marquee Moon is undoubtedly a post-punk masterpiece, Adventure is highly overlooked. |

If someone loves the sport of football they would enjoy both. To borrow from JORR, they aren't football fans but NFL fans. |

I like the NFL more because of the competition and parity for one reason. Almost anything can happen any given sunday. I do enjoy a good college game in the Big 10 or looking forward to Pitt in ACC this year. I don not however like or check that cannot stand so many of college games being one school crushing some other poor school 77-14. |

It's not the players that people think are sleazy, it's the NCAA and their rules and regulations. |

Bucky Chris wrote: You're citing two players, one of which is now rumored to be involved in drugs and a drive by in college that his coach covered up. I'm citing the biggest offseason scandal. Bucky Chris wrote: It's not the players that people think are sleazy, it's the NCAA and their rules and regulations. How about the NFL pressuring ESPN to drop out of the Frontline documentary, the NFL hiring quacks to muddy the waters on concussions or flat out lie about them, the NFL being involved in the ludicrous "heads up tackling" campaign, the lengths they and the owners go to abuse local municipalities for stadium deals, and many other things would indicate that the NFL is just as sleazy.I'm not arguing there aren't parts of college sports that are sleazy too but it's hypocritical for people to think that the NFL is any different than the college level. In fact, as pointed out by the Johnny Football comparison, and how "sleazy" it is that a rich kid can't sign autographs for money while playing college athletics, and that the NCAA licenses player likenesses, the college sports "sleaze" is relatively minor. |

The NFL exploiting college football as a free minor league system. |

I like both college and pro sports, but as I've gotten older, I like the pros more, as it is easier to keep up on. College basketball and football has become overhwhelming for me to try to remain current with due to the number of teams. I still enjoy them, though. |

Yep. Any playoff system that features a single game as opposed to a series has a much greater chance of having "fluke" victors. The BCS is probably more accurate if you're looking to crown a "paper champion," which is what Bernstein seems to love doing. |

This could go on all day. Abusing non-profit status. Profiting off breast cancer "awareness". Punishing Terrelle Pryor for things that happened in college but not punishing Pete Carroll or Chip Kelly. Fighting hard against sports gambling in New Jersey while not fighting it's broadcast partners from hosting direct payment sports gambling leagues. Sounds like watching the NFL is the perfect way to avoid sleaziness. |

Bucky Chris wrote: No one is saying the NFL avoids sleaziness. You're fabricating that. No, plenty of people just ignore the sleaziness of the NFL. They know it is there. I'm just saying be consistent. If you are so disgusted by college sports that you feel the need to decry the sleaziness be willing to do the same for something you choose to like.My point is that it's hypocritical to judge college sports for it's sleaziness when in many respects the NFL(and other leagues) are just as sleazy or even worse. |
