Pound cake is often a forgotten child in the breakfast pastry family. Donuts, cup cakes, etc. have all had their days in the sun recently in the hipster world as the pound cake labors in relative obscurity.

Well today someone delivered a loaf of the stuff the size of a wonder bread to the office. Fantastic stuff. I never got the name of this beautiful man of god who made a delivery from the heavens

ohhhh shit. my grandpa's older sister, like 15-20 years older (so we're talking dawn of the century here) used to specialize in poundcakes for every easter/special occasion. easter brought us the lamb cakes, a poundcake cooked in the shape of a chillin' lamb covered with frosting, which i'm pretty sure she used to make before the inevitable allure of the $2 tub won out. it was a thing in terms of the family legend/lore/tradition/etc.

by and large, i think the trend to up the ante on the sweet side of things over time is what buried the poor poundcake in the realm of warm fuzzy memories.

My uncle got me hooked. Now they sell the little ones in packs of like 8 at Walmart for $3. I buy one everytime I go shopping. Tried the Angel food ones, not that good.

My problem with poundcake is that it doesn't feel like I'm getting the value I should out of something that is basically just a stick of butter. It's tasty but if I'm just going to throw in the towel and eat something like that I think I can do better.
