He was interviewed by Larry King, who was filling in for Olbermann, and he said that the president of the NCAA makes over a million dollars and the players are not allowed to be paid for their services. Nice to hear someone say that players are being exploited and should be paid. |

I don't know why more players don't do the Brandon Jennings route and spend a year in Italy living in an Villa and making some cash for a year.....better than a year in Champaign anywut |

For some reason it hasn't. |

I am not sure exploited would be the best term to use, but I would agree they should get a small stipend. I think getting a free education isn't necessarily getting nothing. I also think that a stipend should be tied to getting at least a passing grade in all classes. |

The European teams can find a guy on the street who can provide what Brandon Jennings at that age can. This means they may get paid more but the teams don't really care about developing them. The best option is still for college players to go and train, get better, and get exposure here in America playing for a scholarship and likely always will be. What does surprise me is that more players don't simply sit out a year and train to make the NBA, but that is probably because certain schools specialize in that type of instruction and it makes more sense to just go there and get it for free. |

I think the product of college basketball would be better if they let players return to college even if they played pro ball elsewhere. They can also be sticklers about eligibility. Kyle Long was forced to enter the NFL draft because they wouldn't grant him an additional year of eligibility. |

Brandon Jennings hardly played while in Europe. He didnt fit in, had a terrible time, etc. Jennings also didnt do this as a primary choice, he did it when Lute Olson retired suddenly and U of A didnt have a program when Josh Pasner left shortly after. I am sure someone would have given Jennings a scholarship, but I would assume he would have had to sit out a year, etc. So he left. Seems to be a very well spoken guy, confident, etc and he just said that most of the players are older, been playing together for years and it just wasnt a great time for a 18 year old kid to come over for 1 year, make some big money and everyone knows he is going to be gone next year, so they dont want you on the team. Thus, most go to "school" For the few stories you hear about some schools/players getting busted, I would guess 99% of it goes unchecked |

Until the college players form a union they will continue to give all the profits to the universities. I think it should also be noted that the NCAA may be sued at some point for the head trauma stuff, especially since college football has been around longer than pro football. Interesting fact from Wikipedia: "Between 1890 and 1905, 330 college athletes died as a direct result of injuries sustained on the football field." |

Saw the interview. He's in tremendous shape! Agree that these college players should get at least a stipend. |

It's kind of like if you were a parent and your kid was a child actor, but you wouldn't let him/her have any of the money they earned other than their room and board. You agreed to pay for their college provided they continue to act each year they attend school. |
