Team Boston Red Sox! It only took you a year to fix the problems Theo created! Stay strong Cubbie Nation. It gets better! Edit: I took the spoiler out of the subject just in case. |

Yeah, that Lackey, Ortiz signing really fucked up everything. Of course Ben signed Dempster, so who can argue with that. |

A really close friend of mine lives just north of Boston. She has a twelve year old kid and I talked to him before yesterday's game and asked him if he thought the Red Sox would close it out. He didn't hesitate and said, "They will." as if it were a fait accompli. It got me to thinking about his sports world and how much different it is from that of anyone I grew up with. This kid expects his teams to win. In his short lifetime, Boston has been King Kong. They've won in all sports, most more than once. I think they've even won in soccer. In his world, the Yankees are the team trying to be the Red Sox. It's very strange. |

My Nephew is 8, he has been to 15+ Bulls games, got every players autograph, met Thibs, Buckets, etc, been to 40+ Cubs games, played catch at Wrigley, 4 Packers games 3 Bears games, 20 Brewers games, sits front row at the Brewers, 10+ Hawks games, NU Games, etc. I told him the first game I went to I was 10, it was a cubs v Expos game on a rainy April Monday. He said 'Who are the Expos?" |

Did any of Theo's acquistions end up helping the Red Sox win this one? |

In his world, the Yankees are the team trying to be the Red Sox. It's very strange. Its really amazing how dominant the city sports teams are. That said, the window for several of the sports team in that city is going to close in the next 2-4 years. Brady will be done. Ortiz will be done. Bruins may still compete for a cup. The saddest part is that the 2000-2010 decade was probably the best in all-around Chicago sports as long as I can remember. Bears make it to a Super Bowl and several playoffs. They are consistent regular season winners. Sox win a World Series, make it to four (?) playoffs and are consistent regular season winners. Cubs make it to three playoffs, actually win one series and are consistent regular season winners. Bulls make it to several playoff series and are consistent regular season winners. Blackhawks win the cup in 2010 and make a good run in 09. Now we may not have a baseball playoff game in Chicago for the rest of this decade. The Bears may not make the playoffs again this decade. The Bulls are in basketball hell. The Blackhawks may have one more cup in them and look the most promising of all of them. |

John and Tom were kind enough at some point late in the summer to tell me that they wanted me to stay with the Red Sox, to stay with (Fenway Sports Group) in any capacity that I imagined," Epstein said. "I could tailor my role or do what I wanted. It meant a lot to me. I was really appreciative.

Yeah, I remember how Boston didnt want him. I gotta say, I 100% believe the crowd last night affected the game. Red Sox probably would have won either way, but that atmosphere was crazy. |

Is Theo just a great GM or the greatest GM? In the same season he won his 3rd World Series while also artfully tanking another. |

What really impresses me about this Boston team is how they were able to win the World Series with ONLY the third highest payroll in baseball. Before, they used to only win it with the second highest payroll in baseball. Someone must have watched Moneyball a lot this summer! |

rogers park bryan wrote: They were a little heavy on the "Boston bombings helped us win" stuff A little? That was predictable but they laid it on thick. If the Red Sox can find inspiration from two people dying senselessly in their town, the White Sox should at least be able to get to the playoffs on the backs of the 1,000 or so people who do so in their part of the city each year. |

rogers park bryan wrote:  Yeah, I remember how Boston didnt want him. People say a lot of stuff for PR reasons, but isn't it common knowledge that there was a deep divide between he and Lucchino? Isn't the narrative that he didn't want to sign all those high-priced guys like Crawford and Lackey but the ownership group forced him to? So when Lackey sucks, it's not Theo's fault. But when he's a key to a World Series run, he's Theo's guy. It must be nice to be the teflon GM. |

Post subject: | Re: Team! |
let's not go painting Lackey as a key. He had a decent playoff run and a losing record on a 97 win team in the regular season. There's not a single person who would undue signing Lackey if he had the chance. No one is looking to take credit for him because it does not take even a small bit of memory to understand the disaster he brought for two years. |

Their starting pitching outside of Lester was pretty ragged. |
