The roads were not very good, but it only took me about 20minutes more than usual. Its winter, people. Suck it up and get to work/school.

Due to late arrival of equipment from earlier trains. Besides I'm on probation for and I quote my alleged failure to perform service as a full time employee . Despite working 60 hour plus weeks

My train was 9 minutes late due to "accomodating passengers"

 yeah, it's our fault

On the road all fucking day today. Naperthrill, Plainfield and maybe a little Yorkville.

Coffee and deft driving tactics.

I'm in. It took me 1.5 hours+. If I knew the snow was this bad last night I would have turned off the alarm, slept late and maybe come in. Once I was dressed and out, I wasn't coming back. I expect the rest of the office to be late.

roads were fucking terrible. i think all the towns have blown through their snow plowing budgets and now just aren't plowing anymore.

I'm lucky as I live adjacent to county and state roads so they are usually plowed early. Plus we leave the house at 6:15am, so there's only a few of us fools out there.

Always a good feeling to make the first marks in the snow

that's the key part there- the roads were shitty as hell this morning but if you're the only one out there it's a little more manageable. if you're stuck in bumper to bumper traffic its 1000x worse

I'm in my pajamas still and working. I've got the best of both worlds.

Yep. I'm early enough that I'm able to avoid most of the traffic as well.

I agree with Hatchetman in that certain roads/sections of roads don't seem to be getting plowed at all.

the wbbm traffic is kind of cool except for the popups. if you put your cursor over the spot it tells you the speed. most places in the city are 1 MPH!

www.travelmidwest.com is where all of the traffic information comes from. It is linked to the message boards on the tollways. The Grad Students at UIC were developing this with IDOT and the Toll Authority when I was there.
You can even click on cameras for 5 minute pictures. It's pretty sweet....

This is what I use, and it also seems to be the most accurate in terms of travel times.

I'm on the roads early as well. It seems to me that they are much more crowded even in the early hours than they were six months ago. 6:30 and before is still at 55mph most of the way but it used be above 55mph with people who were late in the 80s.

I think that is a function of weather and summer night habits than there suddenly being more people. Bowling Leagues, Softball, Volleyball, Golf, etc...people stay up later in the summer, get up later. In the winter, there isn't anything to do except fall asleep in front of the t.v. or have sex at 8:30pm, then fall asleep in front of the t.v....

Did you study traffic engineering? Do national standards take the changes in daylight hours into account

Roads in the city are the suck. Probably plowed and salted too early overnight, or Chicago has raised the white flag to winter.

I'm in the downtown area today and I was surprised to see the expressways and streets that bad down there.
