Garages! Lawns! Less terrible smells! Less corruption! You don't have to put a folding chair out to protect your snow cleared spot! You can actually think about sending your kids to public school! Less taxes! Two car garages! Costco! Cities have cheap hotels on Priceline or Hotwire for when you want to get that Big City feeling! Less homeless people threatening to beat the daylights out of you! Coopers Hawk! Three car garages! Trees exist in more than just designated zoned areas! Free parking! Hey, we've got trains too! Bigger houses! Less random road closures! When it's cold, I don't have to walk 10 blocks in it for Chipotle! When it's raining, I don't have to walk 10 blocks in it for Chipotle! When it's hot, I don't have to walk 10 blocks in it for Chipotle! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34u_3Z9_LUw |

Also there is less of a chance of ice falling on your head when you are walking to work in winter. |

rogers park bryan wrote: No dark people Quote: A report from the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research found that while Chicago has experienced significant decline in racial segregation in the past decade, it still remains the most segregated city in the United States. The Sun-Times reports the study, conducted by professors from Harvard and Duke, both fellows at a conservative think tank, examined data dating all the way back to 1890 and found that cities in America are more integrated than any time since 1910. The report also found that “all white neighborhoods are effectively extinct.” Chicago saw the second largest decline in segregation, trailing Houston. Gentrification, African Americans moving to the suburbs, better credit access and fair housing laws were given credit for the decline. http://chicagoist.com/2012/01/31/chicago_is_still_americas_most_segr.php |

and yet somehow the suburbs feel like Death's Waiting Room. I'll take the inner city or hunt/fish/roam naked in your back 80 while blasting your music as loud as you want country over the flippin' burbs. But at least suburbs can look down on "exurbs". The drive-until-you-qualify exurbs--all the amenities of the country with none of the freedom. Exurbs: no balls. At least folks in the suburbs are getting some city-proximity and amenities for voluntarily moving into America's take on Foucault's panopticon. |

In this thread alone, we've been called racist, scared, and having terrible taste. It's a common theme. Oh, but someone thinks houses and yards are smaller in the city! How do you handle such a stigma? |
