Terry Francona Goes To The Mound To Tell Pitcher He Made The Team

Terry Francona seems like a pretty rad dude. During Monday's spring training game against the Reds, the Indians manager went to the mound to remove pitcher Blake Wood from the game. At the time, Wood still didn't know whether he had made the roster or not. Francona, however, knew that Wood had made it, so he decided to deliver the good news right there on the mound.

Fox Sports describes the scene:

"When I went to take him out, (catcher Luke) Carlin was coming and I told him to stay back there a little bit," manager Terry Francona said. "I went out there and asked (Wood) if he ever made the team on the mound? He was like no. I go 'well, you just did.' After that we came and talked to him the dugout but you could tell he was pretty excited."
And that's how we ended up with this awesome picture:

Awww, baseball is neat.

conns790downer.

Almost as exciting as the huddle that happens over 100 times each NFL game.

Pretty cool story. I remember when the Sox were featured on 'The Clubhouse' and they showed the scene of Ozzie telling Sergio Santos he had made the team. Very real, emotional, cool stuff. Fun to read about and watch.

Why?

Yeah that's ridiculous.

Sincerely, the commercial break between the extra point and the kickoff

Because Cubbie fans are loath to talk actual baseball. Except as it relates to attendance.

That's because we are busy at the ChiCubs Bar and Grill, or the fundamentals deck, or the hall of fame walk, or the picnic area, or the RF bar or the Chicago Sports Depot or the tailgate area or the Jim Beam club or the Magellan club or the mist tent or taking pics with the ameba or the penis announcer race, or the fireworks, or hickley and schmidt water truck game, or the dunkin donuts race or kid broadcasting center or oggle the "pride crew", too much to do rather than watch a game.
