I can dig it.

The character will be gone. He can still pull off some of the shtick, though. Just to a lesser extent...

The thought that somewhere somebody was considering Chelsea Handler gave me the anger shits .... this is good news indeed.

Colbert leading to Craig is ratings gold, Jerry.

(well, probably not, but it works for me)

Why? It seems like it would be silly to stay in character.

Even if he's in character, I imagine he cant be as edgy as he is now.

Because I only recall him going out of character when his mom passed away. He gave testimony in front of Congress in character. It's a huge risk to give him the show without the character.

What a polarizing issue considering most of us watch very little of any of the late night shows

Right?

I would love it if CBS allowed it.

Up until about 2 weeks ago I had no idea Arenio Hall was back on the air in this capacity and has been for some time.

Is it really polarizing though?

I never watch late night shows and this isn't going to change that.

I usually watch the show the next day. Either online or on demand.

Why would Stephen Colbert play a parody of a Fox News host to do the Late Show? That doesn't even make any sense!

Because that's why he's famous?

I don't think he will, but it shouldn't be dismissed so easily since it's what he's known for...

colberts whole bit is a parady of bill oreilly is it not? this will be interesting, why did they even bother to announce the replacement so early? They were afraid of losing colbert to another network?

Yes, famous for playing that character on a show. It doesn't make sense outside the constraints of that show. I'm sure there will be elements of his persona that carry over, like the general sense of self-impressed bluster, but playing a full-on caricature of Bill O'Reilly on an over-the-air late-night show is a reach, unless CBS is going to turn The Late Show into a parody of a show on a right-wing cable news channel whose demographic and relevance are dying at equally swift rates. Not that this is impossible; NBC basically turned The Tonight Show into Weekday Night Live to accommodate the lisping doofus who hosts now.

I tried for parts of the first two evenings, and it was just not a good viewing option ... it's not 1991 anymore ... "Those days are gone forever. Over a long time ago."

Terrible choice. It is unfortunate that the bar for late night talk show hosts has been lowered so much.

When did it become okay for iconic, seemingly neutral institutions like Letterman's show to hire blowhards like Colbert? Total tone deaf hire. How will he resonate with LGBT and minority viewers?

I feel like if Colbert did a mock Chris Matthews show (instead of O'Reilly) you would be his #1 fan

I cant tell if this is serious or not.

Why would he not resonate with minority and LGBT viewers?
