OK he is the ultra scumbag, but I got to give the guy credit for his latest move of letting his wife negotiate the sale of the team. LOL

He is no longer responisble for her actions. he knows she is nuts and basically has nothing to lose here. She has everything she wants plus enough 100 times over, so what the fuck does she care of nobody gives her the asking price she is going to want and I am just guessing a ton of other throw ins.

-2 permanent sky boxes at the Staples center with tickets to any event
-Free food and drink for the boxes
-5 reserved parking spaces
-100 autographs from any player
-Never pay federal taxes again

If they think this was good move, not so sure. Donald knows what the NBA is going to get in this deal.

I'm sure Joe Orr has some good stories about negotiating a sale with the wife in a husband-wife situation.

Sterling would never just allowed this to happen without a fight if he didnt think it would be more of a pain in the ass for the NBA, than even dealing with him.

From a tax POV, I don' think it changes anything--transfers between spouses, either during marriage or incident to a divorce--are non-taxable events. Tho if Sterling died before his wife while they still had a joint interest in the franchise, she likely would've rec'd a step up in basis on his half/share of the value of the franchise (and vice versa).

Guessing if a sale happens before the wife dies now, the purchaser or the NBA/other owners will chip in an extra amount to cover the capital gains tax hit--similar to how when you look under your seat at Oprah and find the keys to a new car, Oprah kicks in some cash to cover the tax bill on the car.

I see it taking years, thus the theory of death could easily come into play.

Guessing she wants $2 Bill!

Yeah but that was just for a rooftop purchase not an entire team.

The NBA might have a major headache because the Sterlings can sue for being forced to sale at a low purchase point. The NBA might have to chip in what the Sterlings lost due to the forced sale.

when i worked for King asshole, we had deals that were basically forced upon him and I will tell you they were actually good deals, just because people got so sick of him, they didnt care about the money, just wanted to be done with the guy and he still didnt agree and sign.

-HealthSouth vacated a space in a bldg he owned. they had the right to, but had to pay a termination fee. They asked for the calculation from him for 9 months, he just never responded and they moved out. He then sued them. We go to court, he asks me to come up with a figure that takes into account everything. Somewhere around $800K and they said they agree, he then said NO. lol

-Major purchase of a website, by Tribune co. The guy has office space next to us. he retained the ROFO on the space. He gets the ROFO notice and doesnt respond. Then finds out the office condo is being sold as an asset of the company. The Tribune is buying the company and the office condo was just one of the assets, which they didnt want. So they continue to offer him the condo, he doesnt respond and sues them to try and stop the sale of the business. lol

of course I could go on and on

Mr. Cooperative delivered a 38 page reason why he wont sell the Clippers.

Yeah, this guy is going to make it easy to sell his team.

So since he refused to respond, wasn't some of this stuff thrown out in court?

REALLY?

And no matter what it was, he wouldnt deliver it. The guy is a total pussy who hides behind his attorneys.

And the old tribesman already has enough 0's, plus the guy is 87. This is all the guy knows, is going to these games and pulling the strings.

Its why Golf is a good game.

How anyone thought this was would go smooth and quick still has me laughing.

Until you deal with people on this level, you really cant understand how someone will always fight anything. even if it is good for them.

June 10, 2014
WHY I AM FIGHTING THE NBA? THE NBA WANTS TO TAKE AWAY OUR PRIVACY RIGHTS AND FREEDOM OF SPEECH
I was brought up in America and educated to believe that every citizen has a right to privacy and right to freedom of speech. As a lawyer and citizen, I am shocked (but not surprised) that the NBA wants to take away those fundamental rights.
I feel that every American has to protect those rights and that the NBA should not be allowed to take away those rights. I have apologized for my mistakes. My apology is sincere. I want every American to know that I will not give up fighting for those rights.
I also feel that the leadership of the NBA is incompetent, inexperienced and angry. It is clear that they took this opportunity to settle the personal grievances they have harbored against me for years.
The NBA has a history of discriminatory practices which is supported by the numerous lawsuits filed by NBA employees claiming gender based discrimination. Adam Silver has worked for the NBA since 1992. He must know about the discriminatory practices of the NBA which are all matters of public record. The reason Adam Silver is focused on the sale, instead [of] the larger social issue, is because doing so would require him to examine the NBA’s own discriminatory practices, including those that occurred under his many years in leadership. If the NBA is sincere about their approach, Adam Silver needs to publicly examine the NBA’s own conduct and the conduct of each and every Owner.
For now, it seems Adam Silver is content with focusing his energy on violating my rights, attempting to take my property, and signing autographs for TMZ. Maybe once the dust settles, he will have some time to focus on the NBA’s own transgressions.
The NBA continues to thrive and exact its reign of terror in large part from the money it receives from the Fans. The NBA is a band of hypocrites and bullies. They will not stop until someone stands up. They have taken the liberty to desecrate my privacy rights and my right to own property. I have no doubt that they will continue to find new ways to violate my rights and the rights of any person in order to draw attention away from their discriminatory and repulsive conduct.
We have to fight for the rights of all Americans. We have to fight these despicable monsters. THIS IS THE REASON I WILL NOT SELL MY TEAM.
Donald T. Sterling

Like many in the world that we like to call "Ecentric" because they have money, they dont take 'no' for an answer. They have a belief system that is skewed to what they want that day and they truely believe the crap they say. Its how many of them became rich.

Now the Shelly has insulated herself as the good cop in this issue, Donald can bring out his crazy army of Lawyers and do everything in his power to try and keep his team. I don't think he will, but he will not make it easy.

Took what, three days?

And she got the $2B too. She could have done all of some good with those kind of negotiating skills.

Even you BF.

Firstly, what's with the name calling? Awfully churlish. Everything ok?

Secondly, it's not a matter of "freedom of speech", so I rolled my eyes at Mr. Sterling's letter. Didn't realize that was a controversial stance.

Or did you just want to be rude to me. If so, sorry for ruining it.... :(

The key statement to me was "dont bring them to my games"

That's textbook racism and not covered by freedom of speech, right? Isnt that a directive of a business operator to discriminate?

It is a matter of freedom of speech. And because of that right, the world now knows what the NBA has known for at least 15 years and chose to ignore until they were forced to confront it.

You see, that is one of the benefits of the freedom of speech.
