Film. Just blew through some long-expired TMax and the stuff looks great. I have an old Mamiya RB67 but I rarely use it - the Hasselblad is my workhorse.

Though on the digital end - I use a Mamiya Leaf Credo 60 for some things. I do hope to get the chance to try that new Pentax 645 before the end of the year - I think that's a 51 MP back.

Did you film that little coffee bistro at the bottom of Mt Kilamanjaro, or was it the sawmill at the gateway to the Amazon Rainforest?

Even though you're being a smartass, you're giving me some ideas. I'll be in Santorini and Rome in September and a few street bistro shots might work.

I've been shooting with a Canon 6D lately (which has a full-frame sensor), which has great dynamic range and takes beautiful pictures with the right lenses (E series).

Nevertheless, I am very interested in upgrading to a medium-format camera in the future.

I'd love to see some images produced by your Hasselblad, Fealz. What subject did you shoot for the print that you sold?

What else do you use and for what kind of shots?

I shoot mostly vintage film cameras from the 1930s-1950s. I probably have 15 working cameras. I shoot whatever strikes my fancy. 95% my kids, 4% trains, 1% other things. I have a darkroom & make black and white prints. That impresses the ladies.

I'm trying to buy a Leica at the moment, not because they take better pictures, but because they look really cool.

I shoot my Graflex 4x5, strictly b&w. The Hasselblad and Rolleiflex go everywhere with me. A Yashica TLR is in my office. And my russian Photosniper is my 35mm of choice.

Very cool. I'd like to switch from digital to film photography, but I'm facing a steep learning curve, especially in terms of setting up a darkroom.

And yes, Leicas do look incredibly cool.

Well, everything about it is pretty easy, but it can be overwhelming at the beginning. Probably the most difficult and important thing is obtaining a decent camera that works correctly. On old cameras, the mechanisms get gummed up over time and don't work right. They can usually be cleaned and lubed for about $100 or so. Most people balk at that step. You can develop film in a plastic tank that costs about $30. you have to load it in complete dark, so you can use a special bag for that or hide in a very dark closet. Developing film is easy.
