Good interview on the Score with then director of scouting Al Goldis. He said he couldn't believe that Thomas fell to them in that draft. |

I honestly couldn't tell you if he was on steroids or not. I sway more towards that he didn't, but irregardless, the guy had an amazing eye for the strike zone. I don't think we will see too many players again in our lifetime that are power hitters like Frank and can go ten straight years of more walks than strikeouts. All that said, how much of an impact do you guys think he had on the clubhouse? I just wonder just how much impact he had considering how often he was referred to as a clubhouse cancer. |

I don't think Frank was ever considered a bad clubhouse guy. Sure, guys (Ozzie) joked about his obsession with his numbers and maybe were a little frustrated with him because he may have come off as more concerned with those numbers than with the team's success, but I've never heard anyone say he was a bad guy. When all those young guys came up at once after the white flag trade, Frank suddenly felt out of place on his own team. All of a sudden Konerko was the leader and even though he was just as introverted as Frank, he was respected by teammates in a way Frank never was. I think that bothered Frank too. Frank is just a very sensitive guy and I think you saw that today. But put yourself in his shoes. Here's a guy that is one of the five greatest hitters of all-time and because of certain circumstances, he'll never really be viewed that way. Yeah, he's a first ballot guy and that's nice, but nobody really knows what to think. You can make a case on the numbers that Jeff Bagwell was a better player. Those who really know don't believe that, but there will be people that look at the numbers and argue it. The truth is, Frank was miles beyond Bagwell, Sosa, Bonds, Griffey, Gonzalez, etc. as a hitter but the numbers don't show it and I might even sound dumb suggesting it. I can't say for sure he wasn't a juicer. No one can except him, and the Player's Union created a climate where no one can really believe him. Then he was overshadowed in his own town by Jordan at the height of his career and then by Sammy Sosa, a guy he played with and knew couldn't really carry his jock. His numbers are diminished because of the climate in which they were created. And no one really knows what was legit and what wasn't. We can guess and the writers/voters guessed and put him in on the first ballot. That will have to be enough for Frank. It seemed like today, it was. |

Certain afternoon hosts on the Score were pretty vocal about Frank being a clubhouse cancer. I think you have to put Frank above Bagwell. Screw the numbers. The baseball reference numbers put Bagwell ahead of Mickey Mantle. I have to honestly put him as the best hitter in Chicago baseball history across both sides of town. |

Possibly Griffey. Of this there is no doubt. Bonds is weird because he was a baseball Frankenstein but the numbers are there and were there even when he was still skinny. If were looking at Frank and Griffey (two players who 99.9% of people think were clean) Griffey has got to be better at the end of the day. He played a premium position at a high level where Frank was a DH for a good portion of his career, hit more than 100 home runs than Frank and would likely have hit more if he wasn't injured for years while in Cincinnati. |

I don't think Frank Thomas would say that he was a better hitter than Bonds before or after the steroids. Bonds is by far the best player I've seen in my life. |
