Watching SportsCenter and I see the Chicago team will be playing on national TV tonight on one of the
ESPN channels. Is this not Regular Readers team?

Yes, that is them and they were 4-0 in their pool. They are the #1 seed going into their semi-final game tonight. Good luck Regular Reader's!!!!

Thanks for the well wishes, and yeah, that's my little league's team. Hopefully we don't have to face another starting pitcher that's 6'2" & 230 lbs in the knockout rounds (like we did last year vs. Hamilton, Ohio).

And really Douchebag, that's it?!?

We did. In 1983.

And Lloyd McClendon, Little League legend! A Gary teams counts as Chicago, doesn't it? I've hung out with Lloyd at Merrillville OTB on many occasions. He never acts like a big leaguer and nobody ever treats him like one. He's just Lloyd, another one of us horseplayers.

Good luck tonight!

I don't know why anyone would use geographic proximity to root for an athlete but I'm all in on these guys. Aside from that one team from NYC with all of the 16 year olds, I can't ever remember any inner city team going to the LLWS, let alone one from Chicago. Hope they get to see the proverbial 6'2" 175 lb Taiwanese kid with the 85 mph slider in the finals.

My mom used to go to church with his brother and sisternlaw and got to meet him once. Said he was one of the nicest most unassuming guys you could ever be around.

Good luck!!
If y'all make it out this way I'll have a couple suggestions of things to do.
I've always meant to make it up there for the LLWS, but it's always around the start of school.

And he will be our starting pitcher on Saturday night.

Side note: My in house team faced him once on the mound last year. The fucking blue kept giving him the Maddux & Glavine calls at the knees. At 8(maybe 10) nothing in the third inning, I had to plead for him to give my kids a chance. Maybe 2-3 kids on my roster could even reach the pitch...and his manager laughed, and then pulled him out of mercy for my kids. And we lost 14-0. (and I was grateful he called the dogs off in the third inning.)

LET'S GO WEST!!! :D

They were up 13-2 after 3, when I turned it off. They were the Globetrotters vs. the Generals, at that point.

That must be a hell of a 9 to be able to overcome Reader's coaching ability.

My hat's off to all involved.

Four years ago my minor league team was facing off against his (current tourney team coach) 18 player in house team. The kid who hit two bombs tonight hit a bomb off of us. He made the mistake of admiring it and barely made it to third. Once he got to third, the coach made him put his feet on 3rd & he made him do 20 pushups...with a hitter at the plate. Marquis scored & (Coach)DB then made him run 200 yds for being big time.

Then his dad yells out, "DB, make him run again". And he did. It's a helluva coach (& really good guy) who inspires that in players(later) & parents.

The next year I went up to coach an older team & DB pulled 3 kids off my old team, one of whom is playing now with the two others having played on last year's squad. I'm taking even a sliver's worth of credit.
