Good for him. I hope other musicians start doing stuff like this too. Cell phone filming at shows is becoming one of the worst things ever. I was watching a stream of Lollapalooza over the weekend, and I even caught someone in the crowd filming with an Ipad. What. The. Fuck.

Quote:
Peter Frampton loses cool, tosses fan's cellphone at concert

Rocker Peter Frampton lost his cool at a concert in Carmel, Indiana on Sunday when an unruly fan ignored his repeated requests not to film his performance on a cellphone.

The Show Me the Way hitmaker turned his back in disgust at one point but when the front row fan kept taking shots and video of the guitarist, Frampton turned and asked for the fan's phone.

Online reports on social media differ with some suggesting the rocker hurled the phone into the rafters of the concert venue, while others claim he simply tossed the device backstage and continued with his set.

Onstage Magazine's Larry Philpot, who was at the show, writes, "You could see the absolute look of desperation and frustration on Peter’s face. I have never seen an artist so upset before... and the guy in the front row (was) unrelenting - apparently with no self control, considering he’s already flipped Peter off and turned around and called the rest of the audience a bunch of deadbeats."

Philpot adds, "Peter ends the song, walks over and with a huge smile on his face bends down and says, 'Hey, can I see that? Can I see the photos you've been taking?' The guy hands him his phone and Peter stands up, spins, and flings for the rafters! Yes! The phone went flying to the back of the stage and we all erupted in cheers! With years of experience playing guitar, we just knew he had a great arm!"

Frampton discussed the situation on his Facebook page, urging fans "still scratching your heads as to why I would relieve someone, in the front row, of their phone/camera" to read an accurate review about the incident.

He added, "Many thanks to the eyewitnesses who came forward to explain how annoying, 'Team Distraction' actually were. And not just to me but everyone arm round them."

Several people died when a storm hit the State Fair in Indiana during some country band.
It's pure comedy.

No, I think Hawg just missed your sarcasm.

correct Kirkwood.

Isn't it pretty much a given that you can take pictures and videos nowadays at concerts unless there is a "strict no-camera policy" in place.
was there a policy in place?

and I think Frampton owes this guy a phone.

I don't mind people taking a pic or two, but this is becoming ridiculous and the worst thing about live shows:

Is that Papa Roach? I think that is Papa Roach...

Is it really that disruptive? Even at a place like Metro for TSP, it happens for the first couple of songs or one persons "favorite" and then it's done. I'm a short guy who is usually standing just past the protective edge of the "pit" chaos, and I really don't give a shit.

One dude in the front row is that disruptive? I guess if he's taking flash photos that would be annoying, but a red blinking light?...that's just being a bit of a prudish dickhead.

At the lolla aftershow I was at Saturday two girls spent the whole concert asking people around them to take their picture while they posed. Not exaggerating they spent maybe 70% of the time posing, taking a picture or reviewing/posing their pictures.

I want to watch the show when I'm there, not watch it on someone's cell phone screen.

DB:
stop looking at their cell phones.

Kirkwood:
when you say "girls" are you talking about 20 somethings? now that is annoying...but totally expected.
omg we're at the "insert whatever band is 'cool' now" aftershow...check out my instagram. yolo.

I have been guilty of being a "show talker" when going to shows with band mates. We listen, but also discuss...and have been chided as a result. That is a more egregious concert offense than having a phone glow in front of you.

Yes, early 20s. I wouldn't say I hate it as much as DB. But cell phone screens are becoming bigger and bigger and I notice more people filming instead of snapping a photo here or there.

I don't understand the video stuff either. The audio will be so garbled, so what is the point?

There's always a guy that is about 6'2" with an iPad. I've conditioned myself to tune him out...but, I also don't go to many club shows anymore. Maybe two a year at most. When I do go, I'm standing "on the step" at the Metro.

The audio on the iPad can be pretty damn good. I've never had any luck with phone video quality.

Video I took of the Pumpkins backstage at Allstate in 2012. It was FUCKING LOUD AS HELL in that little room. I had earplugs in and I never wear earplugs at concerts...only when I'm practicing.
