Bears 5-1 in primetime games under Trestman.

Damn impressive.

I think they went 2-24 under Lovie in BIG GAMES....

He does some goofy stuff. Everybody says good stuff about him but why hasn't he had a shot at hc before?

Smart guys and the NFL boys club are not a good match.

Wannt basically admitted it on the air. Said he just didnt fit in and that probably cost him in his advancement.

If he fails to make the playoffs this year , next year he is on death watch. Just think he is all offensive minded, on the other 2 aspects of the game he hasn't a clue!

Wanny didn't advance because he sucked. Trestman's record in primetime games is irrelevant. All that matters is winning enough to make the playoffs, regardless of opponents. The most relevant number for Trestman right now is 9-9, which is his record including "primetime" games as HC.

Its hard to actually have this discussion when your premise is that a guy who went on to work with Super Bowl teams as a DC then a head coach for the Bears and Univ of Pitt, you are going to call "didnt advance"

Wanny was a guy who prepared and prepared and was amazingly predictable, which you could say makes him suck, but he advanced at all levels, because eveyrone in football loved the guy.

Last week most Bears fans were of the thinking he should be fired. I hate to admit this but I am a Dolphins fan since 1971. Our whole organization should be fired.

I actually read that wrong. I thought you meant Wanny was talking about himself in that quote, as in he himself didn't advance as HC for other teams. My bad. Other point still stands.

Jury is still out on a guy that the thread author said that the Bears would never hire.

Trestman is so SMART he turned a 10-6 team into an 8-8 team.

For his next feat of genius, he will turn a dollar into 50 cents.

After he tricked the McCaskey's into hiring him.

America's got talent.

I actually applauded the hire and still think it can work. To me there are at least four criteria for coaches: lockeroom/personality management, offense, defense, and ST. Those are broad categories into which things like time management, game to game strategy, etc are subsumed. We won't know how the players respond to Trestman until more info leaks out, but at least so far we know he knows offense but has produced poor results on defense and ST. Assuming he can keep guys behind him, there are elements of a successful coach here if he is smart enough to realize changes need to be made on his other units, especially special teams.

been watching bears for 35 years and he's the first guy that has a clue about offense.

And maybe the first to not have any on defense or st?

He's just Lovie minus defense plus offense, who himself wasn't a vast departure from Dick Jauron. It's the most lateral of lateral moves. How Bears.

But you kinda knew what dick was. I don't really fault him for things either, he shouldn't have been made hc. He wasn't going to be good from the get go.

I really feel like the Bears' first criterion for a coach is "don't remind us of Ditka." Why else would we get three consecutive soft-spoken flakes who say crap that doesn't make any sense? Everyone else gets these piss-and-vinegar crustballs, and we get "he wasn't in an athletic rhythm," "we went away from the run because they'll stop that eventually," and "I love ball." Really, any one of the three could have said any of those!

Yeah, it's weird. Wasn't Halas sorta Ditkaesque or vice versa?

Greg Landry didn't do it for ya? I keed, I keed. In today's day and age I would much rather err on the side of offense so I'm fully on board with Trestman as HC.

Agree with the principle. Bruce Arians was my guy.

I don't think Dick Jauron was the answer, but let's be fair....I was thought he got a lot out of rosters that were below average.

I guess I was watching another team my whole life that did really well in Primetime games and had a great offense.

Are you praising a guy who is 9-9 overall but 5-1 in games featuring more television cameras?

Yeah, but he's 9-9 with a good offense!

That's soooo much better than being 9-9 with a good defense.

Jay Cutler is 6-1 with 14 TDs and 3 INT on MNF as Bears QB. The one loss was @Detroit in 2012, and it could be argued that it was one of Cutler's best games as a Bear up until that point.

I will ask again, did you make this up?
