This is what separates the coaches with balls from those who lack 'em. I can't remember the last time Brian Kelly tried a fake punt in the college game. Extremely rare. Maybe if he tossed one in, he wouldn't have a string of close losses going. And he's got personnel who could execute that kind of stuff. |

Kelly's team is probably headed to the Pinstripe bowl, so not much to lose there. (You could argue that following the loss to NU, it was time to start taking some chances.) Maybe a little better bowl if they can knock off USC. But it won't happen if the same formula keeps getting applied. |
