First one to definitively say that Trestman was done. His tweets were picked up my multiple natonal outlets etc.

Any word on Kerry Wood's personal service contract ?

but it turns out Emery had been neutered by that time as well so he missed the bigger half of the story

anyway, as the now apparently great Jerry Angelo said "who cares"

It's pretty simple. If George comes out and says they met a few weeks ago and came to this decision, then Bernsie broke a great story.

If George gives any other timeline of events, it was BS. Although, I'm sure Dan would spin it that George would never admit to...blah, blah, blah...

I highly doubt they would admit that he was a lame duck coach for that long.

He gets a lot of grief, rightly so, for the vague reports and non-committed sources etc, but he was the first with this by a significant amount of time. He clearly has a good source in the Bears fold.

As I said before, it also was at a time when a lot of people were saying that the Bears aren't the kind of organization who would fire a coach after two years. It seems obvious now but there was plenty of questions.

Or he took a high percentage guess with the always handy "things changed" in his back pocket.

I don't see any reason that they couldn't admit it.

I don't think it reflects poorly on the organization that they decided a couple weeks in advance that they would move in a different direction when the season was over.

Me either.

They told Jauron with 3 games to go and gave him the option to leave, and he chose to finish out the year. I don't have any issue with them waiting until today.

They'd have to answer why they didn't fire him that day and let the whole Cutler benching saga turn them into an embarrassment.

At best, I think you'll get a "We have been discussing this for weeks and made the final decision right after the game".

Yes -- he's also said for months that Harbaugh will not be going to Michigan due to his family wanting to stay in California... I'm sure the line now is that the money was too good to pass up. Predicting a coach getting fired after this trainwreck of a season was not hard to do -- anytime after the 2nd Packers game it seemed like above 50%.

Like I said in the other thread (this needs to become a regular acronym to save time: LISITOT, or "liss-a-tot") it's hard to give Dan full credit on stuff like this when he's the master of hedging. And like I've said in many many other threads (no acronym there), Dan's whole thing is that he's whatever he says is until he isn't, at which point he never was. Had Trestman not been fired, he would have been first to the completely opposite story on the same scoop.

In addition to what CH said, it also helped to deflect attention from the negative reaction to his Derrick Rose comments.

bernstein's twitter news from 12-16-14 specifically used the word "likely" when speaking of trestman being fired... giving danny room to wiggle out of his "reporting" if needed to...
