You'll typically find the best (or really the worst) comments below Yahoo articles. The ones below Drudge linked articles tend to be pretty hard core. I found this one below an article on ESPN and thought it was funny. First the article and then I'll post the comments (bolded below): SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- A Southern California high school basketball coach has been suspended and faces accusations of mercilessly running up the score after his team won a game 161-2, one of the most lopsided scores in state history. Arroyo Valley High girls' coach Michael Anderson was suspended for two games after the victory last week against Bloomington High. Anderson said that he wasn't trying to run up the score or embarrass the opposition. His team had won four previous games by at least 70 points, and Bloomington had already lost a game by 91. "The game just got away from me," Anderson told the San Bernardino Sun on Friday. "I didn't play any starters in the second half. I didn't expect them to be that bad. I'm not trying to embarrass anybody." He says if he had it to do again, he'd have played only reserves after the first quarter, or, "I wouldn't play the game at all." But Bloomington coach Dale Chung says Arroyo Valley used a full-court press for the entire first half to lead 104-1 at halftime. "People shouldn't feel sorry for my team," Chung said. "They should feel sorry for his team, which isn't learning the game the right way." Anderson has served one game of the suspension, a game his team won 80-19 with his son Nick at the helm. He'll return after sitting out one more. "He's a great X's and O's coach," Chung said. "Ethically? Not so much. He knows what he did was wrong." What was this coach supposed to do? Tell his players to stop playing? He played only reserves in the second half. The other team scored one Damn point in the first half. Should they not play any defense at all or hand over the ball to the other team? The losing coach said the winning coach didn't teach the game right. What a fucking loser. |

Did they check inside the "girls" drawers after this game? Girls basketball games barely break 30 points. How the fuck was there even enough time to score that much? |

So he should just tell his players to give up. Stop trying. Give the ball to the opponent. Don't try to stop them. That's worse. A coaches job is to win and make his players better. He's not classy because he did his job properly? At which score should he have given up? |

And running a full court press against opponents that are no match for your team doesn't make players better either. His job as a high school coach isn't to run up the score against an obviously inferior opponent. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been suspended for having done so. |

What score do you stop trying? Does your opponent agree at that to make no attempt at comeback. Blame the rules for having no slaughter rule. Don't blame the coach for doing what is natural to a coach. Or blame the losing coach for having coached such a shitty group or losers that can't even score one Damn bucket. That's the coach that should be punished. |

That's the coach that should be punished. You keep trying to use a false premise to make a non existent argument. No one said stop trying. Full court presses are not a basketball requirement. He was suspended for what he did. He was somewhat reticent for his actions. Have you even read up on this? Somewhat interesting that a Fairy started a similar thread and I don't recall you calling him a loser when his team suffered the same sportsmanship. |

What false premise? What the hell are you talking about? So this is only about the first half then? Just the full court press? I don't care if he was reticent about it. If so that's him being weak. I don't care what the winning coach said of it this is my opinion and independent of whatever he says. As for your last sentence I have no idea what you're talking about. |

Hatchetman wrote: youth sports are so damn stupid. what the fuck does that teach anybody? Well, the losing coach had a chance to teach his team about losing gracefully, learning that life isn't fair, and in real life no one let's up if they've got you in a vulnerable position, more likely they'll step on your throat and finish you. But instead he taught them to be whining pussies. |

But instead he taught them to be whining pussies. Do you think they wouldn't have learned that lesson if they lost by say, 75 points rather than 159? If you're going to take that position you should be bitching out the winning coach for benching his starters and easing up on the full court press. I mean if you're going to beat a motherfucker down you may as well be certain their shit is pushed in so far that it reaches the back of their teeth. |

Well, yeah... so that is a good point that I was trying to get to with Seacrest before he Seacrested. When exactly should the winning coach have stopped trying. After the first 20 point lead? 45? Should he have not been running the defense he's trying to teach his team after the 1st quarter? The first 5 minutes? When did it become wrong, what exact point either by time of by points led did this coach cross a line by simply playing his team the way he coached his team to win? SHould he reward his starters by sitting them after 10-12 minutes? Is that fair? |

I think when you get up 60-1 in the 1st half you see if you can manage to contain them with your regular defense. |

Dr. Kenneth Noisewater wrote: I think when you get up 60-1 in the 1st half you see if you can manage to contain them with your regular defense. Well, with their regular defense and the second team they still beat them 57-1. So what difference does the first half defense really make? Fact is this coach wasn't an ass. That other team S.U.C.K.S. Not one goddamn field goal, with or without the FCP, with or without the starters. That ain't the fault of the coach. |

Pressing after youre up more than 20 doesn't even make strategic sense you'd wanna start running clock with a lead like that . Purely a dick move Both coaches in the wrong here. Losing coach shouldnt punt fingers. Make it a lesson for your kids |

You know why I don't play basketball? Cause shit like this would happen to me. Therefore, I don't play it. Maybe these kids should join the Mathletes team or the Chess team or fuckin Glee Club or some shit. Basketball doesn't appear to be in their wheelhouse. Should someone tell the super special awesome in their own way teammates this? Yes. Yes they should. Oh and the losing coach sucks. He should be shot. |

I still find it impressive a girls high school basketball team cracked even sixty points. For chrissakes I've seen college teams botch fucking layups. And to get back to darkside...the team that got beat down obviously would have a reputation for being shitty as fuck, so it's a huge dick move by winning coach to run full court press at all much less for an entire half of play. |

The shocking thing isn't how shitty the losing team played (which you seem to be focusing on for some reason) it's how much the winning team piled on. For example, I understand that homeless drug addicts made their own bed through their own bad decisions , but that doesn't mean I have to shit in their mouths in order for them to understand that they need to better themselves. |

So the winning team should have stopped shooting buckets and just handed the ball to the losing team at some point in this contest? Or not even played any type of defense at all? |

Darkside wrote: So the winning team should have stopped shooting buckets and just handed the ball to the losing team at some point in this contest? Or not even played any type of defense at all? Yes that's exactly what I've been arguing this whole time. If the winning coach wasn't deliberately trying to buttfuck the other team, why did he run a full court press the entire first half? |
