or perhaps i should get used to saying "grammy winning artist aphex twin" because holy shit i'll be goddamned if my musical hero didn't just go out and win the grammy for best dance/electronic album with 2014's "syro"

click here to see the video clip of good ol effecks twin winning with sirro. lamentably, he didnt show up to collect his grammy as he has more important stuff to do.

as you can see, the competition was stiff:

Best Dance/Electronic Album:
Aphex Twin Syro
Deadmau5 – While (1<2)
Little Dragon – Nabuma Rubberband
Röyksopp & Robyn – Do It Again
Mat Zo – Damage Control

and to tell you the truth while we all know who deadmau5 is (and if you don't consider yourself better off for that) and i've definitely encountered the name royskopp before..... i have no idea who the hell anyone else is. midaswell nab these albums and see if aphex is deserving, cuz to me syro was basically TUSS V2.0 AKA SUPERTUSS ("the tuss" being a pseudonym he used to release a couple'a EPs in 2007, and these tracks sound like they're from the same general recording setup/sessions/etc as syro, so maybe he slagged us off with some ~7-8 year old tracks and still got the damn grammy?)

i never thought this day would come, but now it's here.... and now uhhhh... yeah. my favorite musician is now all bonafide like george clooney in "o brother where art thou?" spends the whole movie trying to be. great job richard!

soooo uhhhh yeah, now that aphex twin is all bonafide and stuff when i can i start hearing him in the background at starbucks?

Normally I'd make fun of you for watching an award show but you brought the testosterone level back to normal by being a guy in his 30s listening to dance music.

outside of using drugs, I could not understand how someone could listen to this for more than 2 minutes without brain damage

Audience drug use keeps a lot of bad musicians employed.

Aphex Twin isn't dance music.

They couldn't even come up with an original design for their logo. Had to copy that, too.

Not all electronic music is dance music, but I can't expect those stick-in-the-mud Grammys to make a distinction that's only been around since the advent of electronic music, what, 65 years ago or whatever it's been.

You can make fun of what they do, or how they "become" different bands, but to say or imply that they are bad musicians is just flat out wrong.

The musicians might be competent, but Spiegel is a terrible singer.
And an asswipe.

He's a good singer. He's not the best, but he's trained and it shows.

How he acts off the stage or on 670 doesn't matter.

The GRAMMYS (and who can argue with them?) call it ELECTRONIC/DANCE Music as a Category.

When they have an ELECTRONIC/DRUG category , they can own that

I don't think it's fair to call it "drug music." I like to have Stars of the Lid on when I'm working on stuff -- low volume, of course. Helps me concentrate, helps me feel more creative. Arguably, it's a drug replacement.

They should have JAZZ/DRUG and JAZZ/NON-DRUG categories.

Yeah, Get Up With It would have gotten the recognition it deserved.

For quality windows, siding and doors...........

He's not a good singer, and he doesn't belong behind a microphone whether it be singing or whining  .
He sucks, and that's a fact, Jack.

Because no other singers have ever lent their voices to advertising...

He does not suck. He is not great. He's good/ok/decent. That is the fact, jack.

Post subject:  Re: Aphex Twin

I don't care if he sings on ads, the reason I brought it up is THAT is his singing voice.
And it's godawful. Fucking terrible. He SUCKS at singing.
And everything else.
