I know its easy to be magnanimous when you make that much cake but its still a cool gesture. Billy Horschel earned $14.8 million playing golf on the PGA Tour during the 2013-14 season. That's a lot of money, but it doesn't undermine what he did for caddie Micah Fugitt after winning the FedEx Cup in September. According to a story in Golfweek by Jim McCabe, Horschel dished out a cool $1 million to Fugitt for helping him reach the pinnacle of golf financially. The $10,000 he left to the locker-room attendants at East Lake Golf Club, site of his title-clinching victory, started things. Family and "team" members were rewarded. When caddie Micah Fugitt learned of his boss' goodwill – a $1 million bonus – he was speechless. "Shock, happiness, joy," said Fugitt, who will set up college funds for his two children. "You have such a wide range of emotions." Mostly, this: "He's always been great about showing gratitude to people like that." That's pretty cool. Actually, the entire story about Horschel and where he came from is top notch. You should check it out. |

Doesn't the caddy get 10% anyway? If he was his caddy the whole year, that's almost $1.5m. |

Essentially you are free to make up your own contract with your guy. A PGA tour caddy can make several arrangements with a player concerning his salary. Most PGA Tour caddies make between $1000 and $1500 per week, but they also make a percentage of what the player wins in the tournaments. This usually equates to 5 percent of any finish outside the top 10. Players breaking into the top 10, but not winning, will share 7 percent of their prize with their caddies. Winning players generally share 10 percent of the prize with their caddy. Some caddies make no set salary but instead earn 10 percent on all prizes won by their golfer. Other caddies make a higher weekly salary and receive no cut of their golfers' win. However, in these cases the caddy usually receives a yearly or quarterly bonus. |

If I was a pro golfer, I would just send my caddy thoughts and prayers. |

Doesn't this guy know he can just hire some 13 year old kid to carry his clubs for about $100? |

Horschel made $14.8M last year - $4.8M in winnings and the $10M bonus for winning the FedEx Cup. Caddies normally get a percentage of the winnings. A player isn't obligated to give a cut of bonuses, appearance fees etc... Most FedEx Cup winners have left their caddies a little something from the $10M bonus. It seems like Horschel might be the first to leave a caddy 10% on the bonus portion. |
