An iconic romantic getaway for Chicago city dwellers, Lake Geneva offers the very best of a Midwestern resort town for adults and kids alike. The town serves as a launching point for popular boat tours of the lake which whiz past some seriously jaw-dropping lakefront homes. Lovers of land can take a hike around the 21 mile perimeter of the lake and soak in its stunning views. Whether lounging in the lake during warm summer months or skiing the slopes during the wintertime, Lake Geneva’s classic charm will lure just about any traveller.

Just don't live there.

Best thing in all of Wisconsin!

Most of the nice things they mentioned -- the lakefront trail, the boats, the skiing -- are not in the City of Lake Geneva, but that's semantics, I guess.

Havent we covered this topic to death?

little known Lake Geneva fact, some great diving expeditions there. Many sunken ships to explore, but its hard with the traffic on the lake.

for some peace and quiet , on a big lake...Greenlake....enjoy Wisconsin, hate the drive

Oh, if you can live on the lakefront, go ahead. But that's a world I never inhabited. The Lake Geneva with trailer parks, underfunded schools, and a terrible sense of social claustrophobia, I recommend that one much less.

The property taxes are heinous.

Illinois really got the short end of the stick in terms of natural beauty. You pretty much have to go to extreme southern Illinois to have something outdoors worth visiting besides Lake Michigan. Wisconsin, Michigan, and most of New England have things all over the place.

It's not a bad drive at all to Green Lake. I do it in 3.5 hours and that includes a stop for dinner at Mars as well as a couple bathroom breaks along the way. My parents do it in 3 coming from Riverwoods. And its an easy drive with lots of landmarks to break it up...state line, Milwaukee and then from there its about an hour and 15.

the appeal of LG is the 1 hr drive from the city. Can check into a motel off the beaten path, eat at GENOS and do i on the cheap.

Go on up to LG in January and see the real underbelly.

Summetime weekend is great, Friday drive up, Sunday drive home. 5 stars

I think there is silica under that lake. I'd like to see the water drained and sold to Arizona, and the land donated to a fracking sand company. Hopefully Walker can manage this before the Jan 2017 inauguration date.

Remember when Lake Delton drained? That was weird.

Yeah we stopped to take a look at the moonscape on the way. In fact I think that's me in the yellow t-shirt.

Starved Rock is worth a day of hiking every few years. Especially if you change up the time of the year you go. Always changing waterfalls etc.

Do they ever go up? Cause I would definitely be up for seeing that.

Dude Starved Rock is pretty awesome. Did some white water rafting on the Vermillion (yeah Rapids dude!)
It's north central Illinois.

True.

That seems like one of the few places I've never been in Illinois. I hear Galena is nice too.

Galena is cute. The main drag feels like some sort of Hollywood backlot. Driving up and down the hills makes your ears pop. Rare for Illinois!

Mathieson is about a mile or two from Starved Rock. It's even better, IMO. Especially in the spring when the waterfall is going full strength.

Love Starved Rock. Hiking is cool, the actual resort is cool. Shit, I've even been to a wedding there and it was the bomb.

New Buffalo is Michigan's only entry? Surprised the comments aren't full of irate Traverse City residents pimping their town.

Spring Green area is a good weekend trip. House on the Rock, enjoyed psilocybin half--way through at the pizza place and then got blown up by the carousel. and then freaked out by the endless rows of dolls and doll houses.

the APT theater is pretty cool. Shakespeare performed outdoors at night. Decent golf course / hotel /restaurant to stay at as well.

My neighbor moved to Traverse City, he loves it. Wife and him have a couple of kids. Said life is just less stress. Bought a house for 400K and is happy as hell.

New Buffalo is kinda over rated....I guess I never had their FUDGE which is really the common element all small towns should be judged upon!
