Northern Illinois was hit with many tornados last night. A small zoo in Belvidere Illinois just North East of Fairdale was hit. Animals were killed and structures and Fencing are gone. The owners are small town people and could use a lot of help Please look at their Facebook page and their GOFUNDME page. Thanks

I went there today to help move debris and help rebuild some fences. A hundred or so people came out and some local contractors helped with the bigger jobs.

They've raised nearly $50,000 already.

Good people deserve a shoutout.

Good job, Mr. Bel... heard her on WGN last night.

Unlike one of your idiot friends that once tried to tell me about how great insurance companies are, I would tell you they would have fought with them for months and would have done nothing to help them out during that time and then maybe offered them 50%.

Sure, they show up when the media is there at a hurricane or floods, STATE FARM, ALLSTATE and Fuck You in the Ear, Ass and anywhere else AMFAM (Triple fuck you to them).

Glad the good people helped out, because insurance companies are really only good for shitty commercials and promoting even shittier music.

Apparently the insurance doesn't pay for the fencing they have for the zoo animals as its expensive and needs to be custom installed. They asked for $20,000 and got $50,000 instead. Not their fault. That said, why they hell do these people think its a good idea to put exotic animals on display? Especially in Belvidere? Imagine what would have happened if that mountain lion got loose.

A lot of the animals (not all) were donated by dumb people who bought these animals for pets and didnt realize how hard it would be to take care of them. The zoo is a few miles south of Belvidere.

Fair enough, but for the most part, their website make them seem like they are simply trying to profit from having these animals on display. I'd donate if they were doing something constructive, like researching the animals.

So people can see them. If not for a zoo, would you have ever seen a lion? And I don't mean on a television. Some people love animals. Other people love animals on TV.

Seriously, I think zoos play a part in conservation. They inspire some young people to work to keep species thriving. Sure, every animal in a zoo is an animal not in the wild, but many of these animals were never wild to begin with. Just as hunters are generally acutely aware of the environment and conservation, so to can zoos cause at least a portion of the population to think about those things, and unlike hunting which is mostly fairly local, to think about them in lands far away.

zoos are great. they usually have people working there that care about the animals a lot more than mother nature does. most animals in zoos dont want to leave.

Was just at 64 & 251 and out by Flag Creek (just west of Rochelle). Looks like a bomb took out that area. Crap.

State police blocking access to Fairdale to the south on Quarry Road. Ogle County sheriff was parked on 72 east of Fairdale - was also blocked at Monroe Center to the west.

Did not go to Kirkland today.
